The role is available in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The Data Engineer is a key role within Data Platforms, responsible for delivering innovative and sustainable data driven solutions to provide Sportsbet a competitive advantage in the market. Project Delivery Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities: Analyze and question business requirements. Actively contribute to the solution design. Accurately estimate effort and hold yourself and others accountable for delivery. Develop high quality, high performing code which meets the business need. Continuously improve our platforms / services with each release - new initiatives are an opportunity to deliver faster than last time. Optimize platforms / solutions to ensure we support our service levels and minimize spend. Identify gaps and implement best practices across operational processes, DevOps, deployments etc. Promote the production of reusable code and modules where appropriate with a view to maximizing effort and reducing development costs Develop and socialize patterns and standards for use across the organization. Essential Skills, Capabilities & Experience Required: Strong experience in developing software with Python. 3+ years of development experience in a cloud first, data centric organization. Comprehensive knowledge about APIs – ability to design RESTful services and integrate with other data providers. Involvement with CI/CD platforms and pipeline deployments patterns (Jenkins, Bamboo, Shell Scripting, Unit/Integration Testing) Experience with data streaming based architecture. Exposure to a variety of databases technologies (NoSQL, PostgreSQL, SQL) and ETL tools (Databricks, Airflow, NiFi, AWS Glue). Broad experience and familiarity with AWS technologies and managed services (S2, SNS, SQS, EventBridge, CloudWatch, Lambda, DynamoDB, Spectrum, Redshift, EMR). Desirable Fast paced agile based environment. Test-driven development techniques. A clear understanding of systems analysis, component based system design and modern software development principles. Experience with serverless based technologies. Exposure to Spark, Genie, Sqoop, Flume, Flink would be beneficial. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one.
