Over the decades, Sydney Hotel has grown alongside the bustling local community, attracting both residents and visitors. Team members join a heritage brand that values reliability, customer care, and a strong connection to the local culture. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Cashier / Bartender role based at Sydney Hotel in Galle. The person in this position will welcome guests, take orders, and prepare and serve beverages in a professional and courteous manner. Day-to-day tasks include handling cash and electronic payments, issuing receipts, maintaining accurate transaction records, and balancing the cash register at the end of shifts. The role also involves ensuring the bar and cashier areas are clean, stocked, and compliant with hygiene and safety standards. The Cashier / Bartender will work closely with the rest of the hotel team to provide an efficient, friendly guest experience and may assist with basic inventory checks and reporting. Qualifications Experience in customer service or hospitality, with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Basic numeracy and cash-handling skills, including operating a POS system and managing transactions accurately. Knowledge of beverage preparation, bar service standards, and safe handling of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (prior bartending experience is an advantage). Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas, following food safety and hygiene guidelines. Reliability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work well in a team and remain calm and professional during busy periods. Prior experience in a hotel, bar, or restaurant environment is preferred but not mandatory. Basic proficiency in English and local languages is beneficial for serving a diverse range of guests.
