Must Haves 5+ years of telecom engineering, network architecture, or network planning experience. Strong Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking expertise (Layer 3 is not a primary focus). Extensive network capacity planning, forecasting, and growth modeling experience. Experience with XGS-PON/PON networks . Hands-on experience with Nokia and Ciena technologies ( required ). Experience with Ethernet services and optical transport technologies (DWDM, coherent optics, ER/ZR). Ability to analyze network utilization, congestion, and growth trends. Experience using network telemetry, utilization, GIS, or operational datasets. Experience automating network planning or operational processes. Plusses AI/ML, advanced analytics, or automation experience for network planning and operations. Experience using AI-driven troubleshooting and outage analysis. Experience with enterprise, wholesale, mobility, backhaul, fronthaul, or midhaul transport networks. GIS, Vitruvi, or ServiceNow experience. Optical link budget analysis and transport feasibility modeling. RFP support, transport design, and cost modeling experience. Experience driving AI-based engineering practices. Exposure to Calix products. Job Overview Seeking a Sr. Network Planning & Architecture Engineer to lead capacity planning, network architecture, and transport strategy for a growing fiber network. This person will fill a key gap in network planning and architecture, with a focus on Layer 1/2 networks, XGS-PON environments, and capacity forecasting . The ideal candidate comes from a telecom engineering background with deep experience using Nokia and Ciena equipment . Experience with automation, analytics, and AI-driven network operations is a plus. This is a lean, startup-style environment requiring a hands-on approach Day-to-Day Own network architecture planning and capacity forecasting. Design and optimize Layer 1/2 transport and access networks. Develop capacity models to support subscriber and traffic growth. Analyze telemetry and utilization data to identify capacity constraints. Partner primarily with Inside Plant teams (70%) and support Outside Plant/Fiber Planning teams (15-20%) . Align XGS-PON growth with core and transport network scaling. Support resiliency, routing, transport design, and service feasibility. Automate planning workflows and improve operational efficiency. Investigate network performance issues and leverage AI-driven insights where applicable. Provide technical leadership across engineering, planning, construction, and operations teams.
