The Tier 3 Engineer provides 24×7×365 operational support, troubleshooting, and incident resolution for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Product Delivery Services (PDS), Benefits and Memorials (BAM), and Memorial and Benefit Services (MBS). The Tier 3 Engineer delivers secure, reliable, and effective Information Technology (IT) solutions that support the Department’s mission. Respond to alerts, HPIs/CPIs, and produce Event Update Reports and Postmortems. Apply OS/application patches, monitor environments, and support deployments. Monitor environments continuously, including dashboards, logs, telemetry, availability, and capacity metrics. Produce Postmortem Reports, Event Update Reports, and After‑Action Reports (AARs). Provide trend analysis, performance assessments, and recommendations for system optimizations. Perform OS and application patching, backup and restoration operations, job scheduling, and environment maintenance. Support deployments (including after-hours releases), validating maximum‑load performance and ensuring release stability Implement SRE practices to improve monitoring, fault tolerance, resiliency, logging, alerting, and automated testing. Support proactive monitoring, synthetic tests, and integration validations to prevent outages and maintain SLTs Required Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or an IT-related degree with 7-10 years' experience Experience providing 24×7 support, responding to automated alerts, HPIs/CPIs, and resolving incidents under strict SLTs. Experience performing patching, maintenance, backup/recovery, monitoring, and environment support. Experience producing postmortems, outage reports, event updates, and conducting root‑cause analysis. Experience supporting deployments, incident triage, synthetic monitoring, and SRE‑aligned processes. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
