Position Summary The SQL Report Writer and Database Developer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving SQL databases, reports, dashboards, and data solutions. This position also assists with IT support tickets and works across multiple business systems and databases. The successful candidate must be able to follow written and verbal directions, understand report descriptions and business requirements, and independently produce accurate reports. Strong SQL, Microsoft Excel, Power BI, troubleshooting, and communication skills are required. This position reports directly to the Manager. Key Responsibilities Write, test, optimize, and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions. Develop and maintain database tables, relationships, and other database objects. Work with multiple business systems, applications, databases, and data sources. Combine, compare, and validate data from different systems. Create scheduled, recurring, and ad hoc reports based on written descriptions, verbal instructions, and business requirements. Follow management direction and translate reporting requests into accurate, useful reports. Ask appropriate questions when requirements are unclear or incomplete. Design and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, data models, and visualizations. Write Power Query transformations and DAX calculations for Power BI. Build and maintain advanced Excel reports using formulas, pivot tables, charts, lookups, and data connections. Extract, clean, validate, and analyze data from multiple sources. Verify report calculations, filters, totals, formatting, and overall accuracy before delivery. Troubleshoot report errors, data discrepancies, system issues, and database performance problems. Assist employees with IT support tickets related to software, systems, reports, databases, user access, and general technical issues. Document IT tickets, troubleshooting steps, solutions, and follow-up activities. Escalate unresolved or high-priority technical issues to the appropriate manager or support resource. Communicate report status, technical issues, delays, and completed work clearly and promptly. Ensure reports are accurate, consistent, secure, and delivered by established deadlines. Document database structures, report logic, data definitions, and development processes. Support report automation and process-improvement initiatives. Follow established data-security, privacy, access-control, and IT support procedures. Perform other database, reporting, and IT support duties assigned by the Manager. Required Qualifications Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Experience writing SQL queries and developing database reports. Experience working with relational databases and multiple software systems. Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, advanced formulas, lookups, charts, and data analysis. Experience developing reports and dashboards in Microsoft Power BI. Working knowledge of Power Query and DAX. Experience providing technical support or resolving IT service tickets. Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions. Ability to interpret a report description and turn it into a complete, accurate report. Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical reporting solutions. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to document work clearly and consistently. Ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, systems, and deadlines. Ability to work independently while following management direction and established procedures. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Management Studio, or a comparable database platform. Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services, data warehouses, or ETL processes. Knowledge of database design, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning. Experience implementing row-level security and managing report access in Power BI. Familiarity with help-desk or IT ticketing systems. Experience troubleshooting software, access, reporting, and data-related issues. Familiarity with data governance, quality-control, and documentation practices. Microsoft Power BI, SQL, or IT support certification.
