Seeking an experienced Email Engineer with strong expertise in enterprise messaging infrastructure and email security. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing SMTP, Sendmail, Proofpoint, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Defender . This role will be responsible for ensuring the availability, security, performance, and reliability of enterprise email services , while supporting email security, threat protection, compliance, and messaging operations across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. Key Responsibilities Design, administer, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise email and messaging infrastructure . Administer and support Microsoft Exchange Server and Exchange Online environments, including hybrid configurations. Manage and troubleshoot SMTP services, mail flow, Sendmail, connectors, routing, and relay configurations . Administer Proofpoint email security solutions, including spam filtering, malware protection, phishing protection, quarantine, policies, and message tracing. Configure and manage Microsoft Defender for Office 365 capabilities, including anti-spam, anti-malware, anti-phishing, Safe Links, Safe Attachments, and email threat protection. Implement and maintain email authentication and security controls including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, TLS, and secure SMTP . Utilize Microsoft Purview for messaging compliance, retention, eDiscovery, data governance, and related information protection requirements. Monitor email infrastructure and investigate mail-flow failures, delivery issues, spoofing, phishing, and other messaging-related security events . Perform mailbox, distribution group, shared mailbox, connector, transport rule, and email policy administration. Support email migrations, integrations, upgrades, and technology transitions across on-premises and cloud environments. Develop automation and administrative scripts using PowerShell to improve operational efficiency. Work closely with cybersecurity, infrastructure, identity, compliance, and service management teams to resolve complex messaging and security issues. Provide Tier 2/3 technical support and participate in incident, problem, and change management activities. Develop and maintain technical documentation, operating procedures, architecture diagrams, and troubleshooting guides. Monitor Microsoft 365 service health and recommend improvements to messaging security, reliability, and operational efficiency. Required Skills & Experience 5+ years of experience in enterprise email/messaging engineering or administration. Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Exchange Administration , including Exchange Server and Exchange Online. Strong understanding of SMTP, Sendmail, mail routing, connectors, relays, and message transport . Significant experience with Proofpoint or comparable enterprise email security platforms. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender for Office 365 . Experience with Microsoft Purview , particularly email compliance, retention, eDiscovery, and information protection. Strong understanding of SPF, DKIM, DMARC, TLS, anti-spam, anti-malware, phishing protection, and email security architecture . Strong PowerShell skills for Microsoft 365 and Exchange administration and automation. Experience troubleshooting complex mail-flow and email security issues in large enterprise environments. Experience supporting hybrid on-premises/cloud messaging environments . Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills Experience with Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot administration/governance. Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID , Conditional Access, and Zero Trust security principles. Experience with Azure/Microsoft 365 security architecture . Knowledge of enterprise identity and directory services, including Active Directory . Experience with email migration and tenant-to-tenant migration projects. Microsoft certifications related to Exchange, Microsoft 365, Security, or Azure . Experience working in a large, globally distributed enterprise environment. Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
