About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Data Architect to provide technical leadership across our enterprise data ecosystem. This is a strategic, hands-on architecture role responsible for helping define how data is modeled, governed, integrated, and leveraged across our products and platforms. You will partner closely with engineering leadership, software teams, product stakeholders, DBAs, and data professionals to design scalable architectures, improve platform performance, establish best practices, and support long-term business growth. The ideal candidate brings a unique blend of architectural vision, technical depth, and practical experience building scalable data solutions within complex SaaS environments. What You'll Do Drive Enterprise Data Architecture Define and evolve enterprise-wide data architecture standards and best practices. Design scalable data models supporting existing and future products. Evaluate and recommend architectural improvements that enhance scalability, maintainability, and operational efficiency. Partner with technology leadership on long-term data strategy and architectural roadmaps. Lead Data Platform Modernization Design and optimize modern data platforms, including data lakes, data warehouses, and analytical environments. Establish scalable approaches for data ingestion, transformation, storage, retention, and lifecycle management. Develop architectural patterns that support future platform growth and product innovation. Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural approaches that align with business objectives. Improve Performance & Scalability Lead initiatives focused on improving platform performance, reliability, and scalability. Work alongside engineering teams and database professionals to identify opportunities for optimization across data processing workflows and reporting systems. Design solutions that support growing data volumes, expanding customer adoption, and evolving business needs. Help establish scalable architectural patterns that support long-term growth. Establish Data Governance & Quality Standards Define governance frameworks, standards, and policies that support enterprise data management. Promote data quality, consistency, stewardship, and lineage practices. Support initiatives related to metadata management, cataloging, and data governance. Partner with stakeholders to improve trust, accessibility, and usability of enterprise data assets. Enable Advanced Analytics & AI Initiatives Build the data foundations required to support analytics, machine learning, and future AI initiatives. Support the integration of structured and unstructured data across products and business systems. Partner with engineering teams to ensure data platforms are positioned to support future innovation and intelligent automation. Help create scalable architectures that accelerate data-driven decision making across the organization. Provide Technical Leadership Serve as a trusted advisor to engineering and technology leadership. Mentor engineers and architects on data architecture best practices. Influence critical technology decisions across the organization. Drive alignment between business goals and technical strategy. What We're Looking For (Must-Haves) 10+ years of experience in Data Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, Data Platform Engineering, or related disciplines. Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale data architectures. Deep understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, data lakes, and modern data platform concepts. Strong expertise working with SQL and enterprise database technologies. Experience designing solutions in cloud environments such as Azure, AWS, or GCP. Demonstrated success leading platform modernization, scalability, or architectural transformation initiatives. Experience establishing data governance, quality, and lifecycle management practices. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to balance strategic architecture responsibilities with hands-on technical problem solving. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Nice to Have Experience within SaaS product organizations. Experience supporting high-volume, data-intensive environments. Data warehouse and data lake implementation experience. Experience with Azure Data Services, Databricks, SQL Server, or comparable platforms. Experience with AI, machine learning, analytics, or advanced reporting initiatives. Background in AgTech, IoT, FoodTech, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or other data-intensive industries. Experience leading architectural assessments and enterprise-wide modernization efforts.
