Why ENFOS: Every major industrial company carries Environmental Obligations: the legal and financial commitments to remediate, restore, and account for the footprint of their operations. These obligations represent billions of dollars of liabilities, span decades, and have historically been managed across spreadsheets, inboxes, and institutional knowledge. ENFOS is the enterprise system of record that replaces all of that. The world’s leading energy, chemical, mining, manufacturing, and industrial companies run their Environmental Obligation programs on our platform. Our advantage isn’t a generic AI model. It’s decades of domain expertise, structured enterprise data, and mission-critical workflows that competitors cannot easily replicate. We are profitable, growing quickly, and transforming our platform from a record system into an AI-enabled system of intelligence. If you’re excited about building durable enterprise software, solving complex technical problems, and shaping the future of EOM, we’d love to meet you. About the Role: ENFOS is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build and scale the backend of our Environmental Obligation Management platform. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you'll play a central role in shaping the future of a mission-critical enterprise platform trusted by many of the world's largest industrial companies to manage billions of dollars of environmental liabilities under U.S. GAAP and IFRS. You will design and own the services, APIs, and data pipelines that power complex financial, scientific, and operational workflows. You'll also help architect Atlas, our AI platform, embedding intelligent automation into enterprise workflows that customers rely on every day. This role carries significant ownership across backend architecture, data integrity, platform scalability, and long-term technical direction. You'll help establish the engineering standards, architectural patterns, and development practices that will shape ENFOS for years to come while mentoring engineers and contributing to a culture of technical excellence. How We Work: We believe exceptional software is built by engineers who own outcomes, not just tickets. Agile Development: We operate in two-week sprints with clear ownership, rapid iteration, and continuous customer feedback. Engineering Excellence: Clean architecture, automated testing, code reviews, and maintainable software are foundational to how we build. Modern Platform: Our technology stack includes Spring Boot, Java, Redis, RabbitMQ, WebSockets, Docker, GitLab, Ansible, and AWS. Continuous Growth: We invest in mentorship, system-level thinking, and technical leadership, creating opportunities to influence the platform and grow your career. Expectations: You will play a central role in modernizing our platform while helping shape the next generation of AI-enabled enterprise software. Success in this role means translating complex business, financial, scientific, and regulatory requirements into resilient, high-performance systems. You'll raise engineering standards, make sound architectural decisions, mentor teammates, and deliver software that customers trust to run mission-critical business processes. You are expected to own initiatives end-to-end, from technical design through deployment, breaking work into well-defined milestones, identifying risks early, collaborating across teams, and consistently delivering high-quality software against product roadmap commitments. What You’ll Do: Design and build resilient, high-performance backend services and APIs that power our enterprise platform. Develop and optimize data pipelines that integrate complex financial, scientific, and operational datasets. Build AI-powered capabilities and intelligent agents that automate customer workflows and deliver measurable business value. Define architectural standards for scalability, security, performance, observability, and API design. Architect customer onboarding and large-scale data migrations with accuracy, reliability, and minimal downtime. Own features end-to-end, from architecture through implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement. Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Implementation to influence roadmap and long-term platform architecture. Build highly observable systems with monitoring, metrics, alerting, and post-incident learning. Present and defend technical architecture and engineering decisions to leadership, customers, and technical stakeholders. Additional Responsibilities: Establish engineering standards and maintain consistency across a growing platform. Champion clean architecture, automated testing, code quality, and maintainable design patterns. Mentor engineers, participate in hiring, and help build a collaborative, high-performing engineering organization. Minimum Qualifications 5+ years of hands-on backend software engineering experience in production enterprise environments Proven ability to architect scalable backend systems and deliver high-quality software using Java, Python, or a comparable language Demonstrated experience building and operating complex B2B SaaS platforms Strong experience designing data integration pipelines, ETL workflows, and complex data transformation systems Strong command of modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and cloud infrastructure such as AWS or Azure Strong systems thinking with the ability to translate financial and regulatory requirements into reliable technical solutions Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain and defend architectural decisions across technical and non-technical audiences Preferred Qualifications Experience building financial, regulated, or audit-driven enterprise software Experience integrating LLMs, AI agents, or other AI capabilities into production enterprise applications Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch Experience with Spring Boot, Redis, RabbitMQ, WebSockets, Docker, GitLab, and Ansible Experience modernizing legacy backend architectures within large, multi-module platforms How You’ll Be Compensated: Salary range in the US: 170,000 - 210,000 with opportunity for discretionary bonus paid annually Stock options granted at time of hire and periodically based on performance Comprehensive Benefits Package

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
