Fourth is the world’s largest and fastest-growing global leader of end-to-end restaurant and hospitality management technology solutions. We pride ourselves on delivering a world-class SaaS experience for our clients by building long term partnerships starting from the first phone call. We know our recipe for success at Fourth is our amazing team... and that starts with hiring the right people! Interested in joining our smart, fun, and talented team? Fourth is looking for a Junior Data Engineer to join our Enterprise Data & Intelligence team in Sofia. As a Junior Data Engineer on the Enterprise Data & Intelligence team, you will learn to design, build, and maintain the data pipelines that underpin Fourth's single source of truth. Working closely under the guidance of the Senior Data Engineer, you will take on well-scoped pipeline and data modelling tasks, build your skills in our Azure-based cloud platform, and grow into a fully independent Data Engineer. What You’ll Be Working On Guided Pipeline Development Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipeline components (batch) on Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory, under the direction of the Senior Data Engineer. Write clean, well-documented T-SQL and Python/PySpark for clearly scoped tasks, following team coding standards. Contribute to Bronze and Silver layers builds within the Medallion Architecture, with review before anything reaches production. Data Quality & Documentation Write and run basic data validation and automated tests for the pipelines you build. Document your own work as you go: naming, lineage notes, and README-level context, so nothing you build becomes a knowledge silo. Flag data quality issues you encounter rather than silently working around them. Learning & Collaboration Work alongside Data Analysts to understand how pipeline output is consumed downstream. Ask for and act on code review feedback; treat review comments as the primary mechanism for skill growth in this role. Participate in team standards discussions so you learn the reason behind conventions, not just the conventions. Growth Toward Independence Progressively take on larger, less-scoped pieces of pipeline work as competence is demonstrated. Build working proficiency with Git-based version control and CI/CD basics for data assets. Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Copilot, Claude) to accelerate learning and delivery, under guidance on when to trust and when to verify their output. What We’re Looking For: This role is suitable for early-career professionals, or candidates with up to 2 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, internships, academic projects, or relevant personal projects. A degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent demonstrable experience will also be considered. Technical Skills Working knowledge of SQL (T-SQL preferred) and Python Basic understanding of relational databases and data modelling concepts. Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure preferred) through coursework, personal projects, or prior internships. Familiarity with Git or another version control system. Soft Skills Comfortable asking questions and surfacing uncertainty rather than guessing silently. Good documentation instincts and a willingness to write things down. Proactive and timely communication on progress and blockers. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written. Preferred Qualifications Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, or Synapse. Familiarity with dbt or another transformation framework. Exposure to tools like Apache NiFi, Fivetran, Boomi, etc. Basic exposure to Power BI or another BI tool. Personal projects, coursework, or internship experience involving data pipelines or ETL. Experience using AI productivity tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Cursor) in day-to-day technical tasks. What You’ll Gain: Mentorship: Structured, hands-on development under a Senior Data Engineer, with a defined path to full Data Engineer level. Foundation: Real production experience on Fourth's Azure/Microsoft Fabric data platform from day one. Visibility: Work on a newly formed, high-visibility team building the data foundation for AI initiatives across the business. Growth: A clear, milestone-based progression route rather than an open-ended junior title. Benefits and Culture: 25+ days off, as well as birthday day off and 4 charity days off per year Flexible start and end of the working day and hybrid working mode, including a combination remote and in the office Team-centric atmosphere Encouraging healthy lifestyle and work-life balance including supplemental health insurance New parents bonus scheme Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. All personal data provided by you in your application will be processed by Fourth Bulgaria EOOD, UIC 203576042, solely for our recruitment purposes. If you do not provide your personal data, Fourth Bulgaria EOOD will not be able to review your application. Fourth Bulgaria will transfer your personal data only within its corporate group and to companies which provide recruitment support to Fourth Bulgaria. 144,883 engineer jobs are open right now

Here's how to pick the right one and stand out in your application.

144.883Jobs

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
