We are looking for an experienced CNC / SolidCAM Programmer to join our Toolroom team for programming and machining of precision moulds, dies, cores, cavities, inserts and other toolroom components. This is a hands-on technical role. Strong practical knowledge of VMC machining is of paramount importance. We are looking for someone who understands not only CAM programming, but also how the program will actually run safely and efficiently on the machine. Key Responsibilities * Develop CNC programs using SolidCAM for VMC machining. * Program 2D, 2.5D and 3D machining operations including roughing, semi-finishing and finishing. * Plan complete machining strategies for mould cavities, cores, inserts and precision components. * Select appropriate cutting tools and define feeds, speeds, step-down, step-over, tool engagement and machining allowances. * Define all CAM parameters carefully with particular emphasis on machine and tool safety. * Simulate and verify toolpaths for tool, holder, fixture and machine collisions before machining. * Plan workholding, setups, datums, tool lengths and safe Z/retract movements. * Support VMC operators during first-off machining and troubleshoot machining issues. * Optimize machining time, tool life and surface finish. * Read and interpret 2D drawings, GD&T, tolerances and 3D CAD models. * Maintain CNC programs, tool lists, setup information and program revisions. * Work closely with the Toolroom and mould-design team to improve machining processes. Technical Requirements Essential * Strong practical experience with SolidCAM. * Strong understanding of VMC / CNC milling machines. * Good knowledge of cutting tools and machining parameters. * Ability to independently develop and verify complete CNC programs. * Strong understanding of feeds, speeds, tool engagement and safe machining practices. * Ability to identify potential collisions and machining risks before running a program. * Good understanding of engineering drawings and 3D CAD models. Preferred * Fanuc controller experience. * Experience in mould / die / toolroom machining. * Experience with SolidWorks. * Knowledge of 3D surface machining and complex mould geometries. * Experience machining tool steels / hardened steels. * Basic understanding of injection mould design. * Hands-on VMC operating experience. What We Value Most VMC machining knowledge is more important than simply knowing SolidCAM. The ideal candidate should be capable of taking a component from: 3D CAD → Machining Strategy → Tool Selection → SolidCAM Programming → Simulation → Safe CNC Program → VMC Machining The person should have a strong shop-floor mindset, attention to detail and a high level of responsibility towards CNC program safety.
