System Engineer (Contract) Please note that this is a contract role providing services to Microsoft through external staffing partners of Allegis Global Solutions. Summary We are seeking a skilled Site Reliability Engineer to join the Service Health Platforms team, responsible for the operation of enterprise network observability platforms. This role encompasses both commercially available platforms and internally developed systems that ingest network telemetry, providing the foundation for tools used by network engineers to operate efficiently at enterprise scale. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in network monitoring systems, Linux administration, and management protocols, with a strong focus on syslog-ng and trapd operations, security patching, and incident response. Job Responsibilities Administer and operate Windows and Linux VMs hosted in Azure to ensure compliance with security and configuration standards Maintain network observability platforms including syslog-ng and trapd by performing upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and authoring rules using regular expressions Provide support for IBM SevOne Network Performance Manager and Broadcom AppNeta observability platforms Investigate automated alerts and customer-reported incidents related to network observability platforms Identify and automate tasks using Bash, PowerShell, or Python Troubleshoot complex network observability configurations, software applications, and operating systems through regular maintenance Deploy, configure, and manage cloud services on Azure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness Implement DevOps practices and tools including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code to automate and streamline development and deployment processes Assist network and security engineers in identification of traffic patterns and resource utilization Perform BCDR failover testing where appropriate Participate in on-call rotation as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) Attend daily standups with team engineers to review and prioritize work for on-time delivery Manage assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives Requirements 5–7 years of enterprise experience in an IT systems, network, or site reliability engineering role Minimum 5 years of Linux system administration experience Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with syslog-ng Minimum 3 years of network engineering experience Demonstrated experience with DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code Experience with BCDR planning and failover testing in enterprise environments Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience will be considered Deep understanding of network monitoring systems and management protocols including SNMP, SNMP Traps, NetFlow, and gNMI Strong Linux system administration skills with hands-on experience running syslog-ng and trapd Proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash, PowerShell, and Python Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure including deployment and management of cloud services Strong understanding of enterprise networking and routing and switching protocols Proficiency with regular expressions for rule authoring and log parsing Experience with system capacity planning, functional configuration, and audit processes Working knowledge of Ansible and playbooks for configuration management and automation Familiarity with source control platforms and version management workflows Intermediate knowledge of data retrieval languages such as KQL and T-SQL Experience with IBM SevOne Network Performance Manager and/or Broadcom AppNeta or similar observability platforms Exposure to commercially available AI platforms is a plus Additional Details Location: Remote Duration: 12 months Pay Range*: $52.50 - $59.50 per hour Weekly Schedule: 40 hours Job Status: Non-Exempt Application Deadline: Apply within 72 hours of the posting date to ensure consideration.
