Database Engineer - Junior Level Why This is an Exciting Role: As a Database Engineer - Junior Level at Boeing Intelligence & Analytics (BI&A), you will be required to: Contribute to cutting edge development programs and designing new solutions Innovate RF signal processing applications Provide technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis Develop relational and/or Object-Oriented databases, database parser software, and database loading software Project long-range requirements for database administration and design Be responsible for developing a database structure that fits into the overall architecture of the system under development and has to make trades among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security and domain controls Develop requirements from a project’s inception to its conclusion for a particular business and Information Technology (IT) subject matter area (i.e., simple to complex systems) Assist with recommendations for, and analysis and evaluation of systems improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts Translate a set of requirements and data into a usable document by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros. Experience and Qualifications: To be eligible for this demanding position, the ideal candidate should demonstrate the following experience and qualifications: Required Education and Years of Experience: Three (3) years experience as a database engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required Four (4) years of additional DBE experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree Required Qualifications: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph Clearance Experience supporting database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis activities Telework/Remote Availability: Telework/Remote work currently not authorized Work Location(s): Annapolis Junction, MD Contingent Upon Program Award The position is contingent upon program award. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
