In this role, you will design, develop, and support scalable enterprise applications, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, high-performance solutions. Job Description Collaborate with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions. Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performing Java-based backend services. Build and enhance RESTful APIs and microservices that support end-to-end business workflows. Develop robust business logic and data persistence layers while ensuring system reliability and maintainability. Provide production support (L3), including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and issue resolution. Participate in code reviews, promote engineering best practices, and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team. Provide technical guidance and contribute to architectural and design decisions. Work closely with Product, QA, Infrastructure, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, audit, and governance requirements, particularly within financial services environments. Design and implement event-driven solutions using messaging platforms such as Kafka. Optimize application performance through effective multithreading, concurrency management, and performance tuning. Apply software design principles, including SOLID principles, design patterns, and clean coding practices. Implement security standards and best practices, including OAuth2, JWT authentication, encryption, and secure coding techniques. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 3–7 years of hands-on experience in backend development using Java. Strong proficiency in Java (JDK 17+), Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud.Solid understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful API design. Experience working with Kafka or similar messaging/event-streaming platforms. Strong knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, and performance optimization. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MongoDB. Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes. Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Strong grasp of software engineering principles, including SOLID principles and design patterns. Experience implementing application security standards, including OAuth2, JWT, and encryption. Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is an advantage. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
