Description Engagement Overview EMS|MC is seeking an experienced independent contractor to provide software engineering services supporting the maintenance, enhancement, and stability of its workforce management platform built on Adobe ColdFusion, SQL Server, and AWS. The engagement will focus on resolving defects, implementing system enhancements, and maintaining reliable, secure application performance while delivering thoroughly tested, high-quality code in accordance with agreed-upon deliverables. Scope of Services Maintaining, enhancing, and refactoring Adobe ColdFusion (CFML) applications to support system reliability, availability, performance, and maintainability. Developing and optimizing SQL Server queries, stored procedures, indexes, and database objects. Supporting cloud-hosted application components within AWS, including EC2, RDS, CloudWatch, and related services. Designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs and JSON-based integrations. Diagnosing and resolving application defects and performance issues through debugging, log analysis, SQL execution analysis, and root cause investigation, with an emphasis on sustainable corrective solutions. Performing appropriate local development, debugging, data validation, and testing before submitting software deliverables for review or acceptance. Developing sufficient familiarity with the applicable platform components, integrations, data flows, and technology stack to effectively complete agreed-upon deliverables and troubleshoot technical issues. Monitoring application performance and recommending technical improvements. Identifying and remediating common web application security vulnerabilities. Incorporating applicable information security, privacy, PII, PCI-DSS, and payment-processing requirements into delivered solutions. Developing secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions that align with engagement objectives. Preparing technical documentation as necessary to support delivered work products. Consulting with designated EMS|MC stakeholders to clarify requirements, technical specifications, dependencies, and deliverable acceptance criteria. Expected Deliverables Completed and tested software enhancements Software deliverables appropriately tested and validated against agreed-upon acceptance criteria Resolved application defects and documented root causes Developed or enhanced APIs and integrations Optimized database queries, procedures, or related components Implemented security-related improvements Technical documentation associated with delivered work Other mutually agreed-upon deliverables Requirements Contractor Qualifications Demonstrated professional software development experience, including at least three (3) years of hands-on experience supporting Adobe ColdFusion applications. Strong proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL development and query optimization. Experience working with AWS services, including EC2, RDS, CloudWatch, and S3. Working knowledge of IIS web server basics, RESTful APIs, and web application architecture. Knowledge of secure coding practices, including protection of Personally Identifiable Information (PII), PCI-DSS requirements, and OWASP security principles. Demonstrated experience independently troubleshooting, debugging, testing, and validating software solutions. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Additional Experience Preferred Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments. Experience supporting Workforce Management, Payroll, Time & Attendance, or HR Technology platforms. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Experience with modern object-oriented programming languages such as C#/.NET. Experience with version control systems and code review processes. Engagement Details Services will be performed pursuant to a written Independent Contractor Agreement and applicable Statement(s) of Work. Deliverables, priorities, timelines, and other engagement-specific terms will be established by mutual agreement before the applicable services begin. Initial Term: The initial engagement is anticipated to continue for up to twelve (12) months. Prior to the conclusion of the initial term, EMS|MC and the contractor may mutually evaluate whether to extend the independent contractor engagement or pursue an employment opportunity, if there is mutual interest. Any employment relationship would be subject to a separate offer of employment, successful completion of the Company's hiring process, and execution of all required employment documentation.
