Team & Tech Lead

Build the team. Shape the technology. Bring AI into the future of engineering. We’re looking for a hands-on Team & Tech Lead to join an exciting new venture launching in Finland. This is a rare opportunity to combine people leadership, technical ownership and genuine product influence. You’ll build your own engineering team from the ground up, set the technical direction and remain close to the code. At the same time, you’ll play a key role in shaping how AI is embedded into the way we build and operate software. You’ll be joining a well established, well funded international group with a proven product already operating successfully in another European market. The Finnish product is approaching launch, giving you the opportunity to join at an early stage and have a meaningful influence on what comes next. Your impact Build your team from the ground up You’ll have the autonomy to shape your engineering team, including hiring key roles such as Frontend and QA Engineers. You’ll define how the team works, establish strong engineering practices and create an environment where people can do their best work. Lead and develop engineers You’ll mentor, support and challenge engineers while owning performance management, feedback and professional development. Your leadership style will be empowering and collaborative, giving people ownership rather than micromanaging. Own technical direction You’ll work closely with your team to define architecture, make key technical decisions and ensure the platform remains robust, scalable and maintainable. Stay hands-on This isn’t a purely managerial role. You’ll continue to write code, contribute to features and get involved in solving complex technical problems alongside your team. Lead our AI transformation AI is a genuine strategic focus. You’ll help identify where AI and automation can make engineering teams more effective, from AI assisted development through to designing and implementing reliable AI agents that improve engineering workflows. Work closely with our international engineering teams Our main engineering hub is based in Hamburg, so collaboration across locations is a fundamental part of the role. You’ll travel to Hamburg regularly to build relationships, align on priorities and work closely with the wider engineering organisation. Partner with Product and UX You’ll be a key technical sparring partner for Product and UX, helping translate customer and business needs into effective technical solutions. You’ll connect architecture, product and user experience to make sure we build solutions that are technically strong and genuinely valuable to customers. Create consistency across teams You’ll help drive collaboration across engineering teams, ensuring APIs, technical interfaces and architectural decisions work together effectively. What you’ll bring Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams A strong track record of building trust, developing people and leading through empowerment Strong, current hands-on experience with Next.js, including App Router, Server Functions and Server Components Strong TypeScript, HTML5 and CSS3 experience Genuine experience using AI within software engineering , rather than simply an interest in AI Experience designing or implementing dependable AI agents and automation A strong you build it, you run it mindset, with experience deploying, monitoring and maintaining web applications Experience working within ecommerce or D2C environments The ability to translate business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions Strong architectural thinking combined with a willingness to get into the detail Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills Strong communication skills and confidence working with stakeholders across different locations and disciplines A proactive, ownership driven approach Willingness to travel regularly to Hamburg Why join? The concept is already proven in another European market, giving the Finnish team an established foundation while leaving plenty of room to shape the product and technology locally. You’ll be joining pre-launch , building the Finnish engineering capability around an already implemented D2C platform, with the backing, resources and experience of an established international group.
