Senior AI Engineer – Agentic Systems 12 Month Daily Rate Contract / Hybrid / Dublin About the Company Our client is a leading bank in Dublin. About the Position We are seeking an experienced Senior AI Engineer to join a technology team developing and operating production-grade AI and agentic systems that support business-critical workflows within a highly regulated environment. This is a hands-on engineering position with significant responsibility for system design, development, reliability, scalability and delivery. The successful candidate will have strong Python development skills alongside practical experience building agentic AI solutions and production-grade AI architectures. Key Responsibilities Design, develop and operate production-grade agentic AI systems using Python. Build sophisticated agent workflows using frameworks such as LangGraph or equivalent stateful orchestration technologies. Design and implement effective context management strategies across multi-step and long-running agent executions. Develop and maintain Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using structured, semi-structured and unstructured data. Integrate AI and agentic systems with existing enterprise platforms through REST APIs and event-driven architectures . Design orchestration patterns for agents, tools and workflows, including: Synchronous and asynchronous execution Human-in-the-loop processes Stateful workflows Error handling and recovery Contribute to the architecture and engineering standards required to operate AI systems reliably at scale. Identify and address system failure modes, performance issues and scalability challenges. Candidate Profile: Essential Skills & Experience 5+ years' experience as a software engineer, with strong commercial experience using Python . Hands-on experience developing agentic AI or AI workflow systems , using LangGraph or a comparable agent/workflow orchestration framework. Strong understanding of context management within multi-step and stateful AI workflows. Knowledge of MCP-style tool protocols and approaches to integrating AI agents with external tools and services. Practical experience designing and implementing RAG architectures , including: Embeddings Retrieval strategies Document/data ingestion Context retrieval and management Strong understanding of workflow orchestration concepts including state management, retries, idempotency and fault tolerance . Excellent systems design and architecture skills, with the ability to assess scalability, reliability and potential failure modes. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Desirable Skills & Experience Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases . Experience with vector databases/vector stores . Experience integrating systems using asynchronous messaging , including pub/sub architectures, events and queues. Experience building AI solutions within enterprise or highly regulated environments . Understanding of production engineering practices for AI/ML systems, including monitoring, observability and reliability. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will combine very strong software engineering fundamentals with practical AI engineering experience . You will be comfortable moving beyond experimentation and prototypes to build robust, scalable and maintainable agentic systems suitable for production use . You should be a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex systems problems and can balance innovation with the reliability, governance and engineering standards required in a business-critical environment. Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
