Why This Role Matters As a Software Development Engineer - II, you'll build and scale the backend systems that power GoKwik's checkout, payments, and post-purchase products. You'll own services end-to-end, make architectural decisions that improve platform reliability and performance, and mentor engineers while driving complex technical initiatives. The systems you build directly influence merchant conversions, customer experience, and platform scalability. What You'll Own Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and NestJS, with Go for selected services. Build and optimize distributed systems using PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Kafka. Own event-driven architectures, ensuring high throughput, reliability, fault tolerance, and scalability. Drive architectural decisions, document technical trade-offs, and improve system design across services. Deliver end-to-end features, contributing to frontend development in React or Svelte where required. Strengthen CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, and cloud infrastructure on AWS. Debug production issues, improve system performance, and ensure high service reliability. Comfortable working across the stack, including frontend technologies such as React or Svelte. Strong understanding of scalability, reliability, maintainability, and software architecture principles. Experience mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and driving engineering best practices. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
