Role Description This is a remote internship role for a Database Administrator. The intern will assist in monitoring database performance, reviewing logs, and helping maintain high availability of database systems. Day-to-day tasks include supporting database setup and configuration, assisting with backup and recovery procedures, and participating in troubleshooting efforts under guidance from senior team members. The role also involves helping document database standards, learning best practices for security and data integrity, and collaborating with developers and IT staff to support application needs. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience with databases in a professional environment, with mentoring and feedback to build technical and professional skills. Qualifications Candidates should possess foundational skills in Database Administration and Databases, including basic knowledge of common database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar). Candidates should possess skills in Database Design and Replication, such as understanding schema design principles and awareness of data replication concepts. Candidates should possess Troubleshooting skills related to database performance, connectivity, and query issues, with a methodical approach to problem-solving. Basic proficiency in SQL and familiarity with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, shell scripting) are beneficial. Strong attention to detail, documentation habits, and the ability to follow established procedures and security practices. Effective remote collaboration skills, including clear written communication and comfort working with ticketing and version control systems. Enrollment in or completion of a degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Interest in learning about database performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies, and cloud-based data platforms is a plus.
