We partner closely with our clients to deeply understand their needs, then connect them with top-tier candidates who are not only highly skilled but also the right fit for the company’s culture and vision. Our mission is simple: place the best people in the right roles to drive long-term success for both clients and candidates. https://www.recruitingfromscratch.com/ Title: Forward Deployed Engineer Location: San Francisco, CA Company Stage of Funding: Series A Office Type: Onsite Salary: $185,000-$250,000 + Equity Company Description We're representing a rapidly growing infrastructure company building the compute layer for AI agents. Its platform provides secure, isolated, instantly available sandboxes where AI agents can execute code, interact with computers, and run training and developer workloads. Following its Series A, the company has already grown 10x and supports agent workloads, reinforcement learning, and development environments for some of the world's largest AI companies. As adoption grows, the team is expanding its customer-facing engineering organization to help developers and enterprises successfully integrate, operate, and scale on the platform. This is a highly technical, customer-facing engineering role for someone who enjoys moving between customer conversations, debugging production systems, and writing code. What You Will Do Serve as a primary technical partner for enterprise customers in your region, supporting them from initial onboarding through production deployment and expansion. Work directly with developers and engineering organizations to understand their architecture, workflows, and integration requirements. Reproduce, investigate, and triage customer-reported issues across APIs, SDKs, CLI tooling, and sandbox infrastructure. Build minimal reproduction cases and dig into production behavior to isolate root causes. Partner directly with core engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues and drive fixes into production. Support integrations involving CI/CD pipelines, agentic workflows, AI coding environments, and developer infrastructure. Help customers design reliable implementations using the company's APIs and developer tooling. Translate complex infrastructure behavior into clear, actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Participate in technical discovery and scoping conversations with prospective enterprise customers alongside the go-to-market team. Identify recurring customer issues, integration friction, and feature gaps and translate those insights into actionable feedback for Product and Engineering. Help improve documentation, debugging workflows, support tooling, and technical resources as the customer base scales. Manage multiple enterprise customer engagements simultaneously while maintaining clear prioritization and follow-through. Ideal Background 3+ years of experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Field Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Developer Advocacy, technical support engineering, or a similar customer-facing technical role. Ideally comes from a developer tools, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure software company. Strong programming ability in at least one language and comfortable reading, writing, and debugging production-grade code. Hands-on experience working with REST APIs, SDKs, and CLI tools. Strong debugging skills with the ability to reproduce customer issues and isolate root causes across unfamiliar environments. Solid understanding of containerization, Docker, compute environments, sandboxing, and general cloud infrastructure concepts. Experience working directly with engineering teams at customers to integrate technical products into production environments. Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Comfortable explaining highly technical concepts to audiences with varying levels of technical depth. Able to balance several customer engagements and technical investigations simultaneously. Comfortable working in a distributed environment with significant asynchronous communication. Familiarity with modern AI development workflows and coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode, or similar. High ownership mentality—you don't simply route support tickets but actively drive technical problems toward resolution. Preferred Production experience with Go, Python, or TypeScript . Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure. Experience debugging containerized or distributed production environments. PostgreSQL experience, particularly diagnosing database-related performance or reliability issues. Experience with observability tooling across logs, traces, metrics, and production monitoring. Background at an early-stage or growth-stage developer tools or infrastructure company. Experience with developer relations, open-source communities, or technical writing. Experience supporting AI infrastructure, agentic systems, or AI developer tooling. Familiarity with CI/CD systems and developer workflows. Experience supporting enterprise customers with complex technical environments. Knowledge of GDPR and EU data residency requirements for enterprise software deployments. Experience working alongside Sales or GTM teams on technical discovery, solution design, or pre-sales engineering. Compensation and Benefits Competitive compensation plus equity. Full-time position within the Engineering / Support organization. Join shortly after the company's Series A during a period of rapid growth, with the platform already having grown approximately 10x . Work directly with developers and engineering organizations using infrastructure for AI agents, coding environments, and other emerging workloads. Highly visible role spanning Engineering, Product, Customer Success, Developer Relations, and GTM . Opportunity to remain hands-on technically while developing deep customer and product expertise. Work within a small, senior organization where customer feedback can directly influence the platform's technical roadmap.

Here's how to pick the right one and stand out in your application.

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
