Our challenge: We are seeking a System Engineer with expertise in messaging systems, Proofpoint Cloudmark, Linux administration, and SMTP routing. The candidate will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting enterprise email infrastructure while ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance. Additional Information* The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $90k - $95k/year & benefits (see below). The Role Responsibilities: Administer and support enterprise messaging and email infrastructure. Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Proofpoint Cloudmark and related email security solutions. Manage SMTP routing , mail relays, and email gateways. Monitor email traffic, deliverability, and message flow across the environment. Perform system administration tasks on Linux servers. Troubleshoot mail delivery issues, spam filtering, and email security incidents. Analyze logs and perform root cause analysis for system and messaging-related issues. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production environments and implement enhancements. Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures. Requirements: Strong experience with Messaging Technologies and email systems. Hands-on experience with Proofpoint Cloudmark . Good understanding of SMTP Routing , email flow, and mail gateway configurations. Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of DNS, MX records, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. Experience with monitoring, system performance tuning, and production support. Preferred, but not required: Scripting experience using Shell, Python, or Bash. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Familiarity with email security and anti-spam technologies. Experience in a 24x7 support environment. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one.
