Principal DevOps Engineer Boston, MA | Hybrid | Onshape Onshape , a PTC SaaS business, is redefining how professional engineers design, collaborate and manage product data in the cloud. We are looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer to help scale and operate the global cloud platform behind Onshape’s collaborative CAD and data management service. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, building automation, improving reliability and keeping large-scale SaaS systems secure, performant and resilient. You will work closely with a highly technical team in Boston’s Seaport District to create a low-touch, highly automated cloud environment. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, deeply hands-on with Linux and cloud operations, comfortable digging into code and infrastructure, and excited to raise the bar for deployment, monitoring, security and operational excellence across a global SaaS platform. Compensation (CIP) PTC carefully considers a wide variety of factors when determining compensation. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is between $118,000 - 190,000. The salary range reflects a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, candidates may be eligible for a performance-based bonus. Employees also have the opportunity to become a PTC shareholder through our employee share purchase program (ESPP), which allows for the purchase of discounted PTC stock. Certain roles may also be eligible for participation in our equity programs. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
