To support this journey, we are looking for a forward-thinking and hands-on Software Engineer (f/m/d) – risklab to join the Investment Technology Area in Frankfurt or Munich . risklab is AllianzGI's expert platform for investment and risk solutions. The team develops advisory services and digital building blocks for quantitative investment advice, tailored to client needs and delivered to internal and external partners through APIs. In this role, you will help maintain, extend and improve existing software systems that support our global digital wealth management offering. The focus is on strong software engineering, REST API design, microservices, cloud-native infrastructure, CI/CD, DevOps, testing, scalability, security and production reliability. You will work closely with engineers, product owners, investment professionals and technology stakeholders to improve day-to-day delivery, production stability and engineering maturity across the platform. You will contribute to improving platform scalability, security, reliability and software delivery practices while helping to build the next generation of digital investment capabilities. What You Will Do Design, build, document and maintain high-quality REST APIs for risklab's digital wealth management and quantitative investment advice capabilities Maintain and extend existing backend services and microservices, improving modularity, reliability, scalability and operational resilience Drive API lifecycle management best practices, including versioning strategies, contract design, backwards compatibility, authentication, documentation and partner-facing integration quality Evaluate and improve existing application and platform architectures with a focus on maintainability, scalability, security and operational resilience Support and improve cloud-native deployments on Azure, including Docker-based services, Kubernetes/AKS workloads, Helm-based deployments and operational runbooks Strengthen CI/CD and DevOps practices using GitHub Actions and related tooling, with a focus on repeatable deployments, automated quality gates and secure software delivery Contribute to DevSecOps improvements, including dependency management, vulnerability remediation, security scanning, container image hygiene and secure configuration practices Improve functional and non-functional testing, including automated API tests, integration tests, end-to-end tests, performance tests and regression coverage for critical journeys Support production operations by troubleshooting incidents, analysing performance bottlenecks, improving monitoring and contributing to root-cause analysis and continuous improvement Support and extend platform integrations and cloud services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, Redis and related Azure technologies where required Work closely with investment professionals, product owners, business stakeholders and technology teams to understand business problems and translate them into scalable, secure and maintainable software solutions Help raise the engineering maturity of the platform by improving automation, documentation, observability, deployment reliability and operational readiness What You Bring 3 to 5 years of professional experience in software development, ideally in backend, API, cloud-native or platform engineering roles Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing REST APIs, including API lifecycle management, versioning strategies, contract design, backwards compatibility, authentication, authorisation and documentation Good understanding of microservices architecture and related design patterns, including service boundaries, resilience, observability, service-to-service communication and data ownership Hands-on experience with at least one modern programming language, ideally Python or C# Good knowledge of cloud-native application development, preferably on Microsoft Azure Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes. Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Helm experience are strong advantages Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. GitHub Actions experience is preferred and exposure to DevSecOps practices is highly beneficial Good understanding of testing strategies for production systems, including unit, integration, contract, end-to-end, performance and non-functional testing automation Experience improving production systems in areas such as scalability, performance, monitoring, incident troubleshooting, vulnerability remediation and operational reliability Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, relational databases and NoSQL/cache technologies such as Redis is beneficial Awareness of secure software development practices, vulnerability management and secure-by-design engineering principles Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make pragmatic trade-offs between delivery, quality, security and maintainability Comfortable working with production issues and supporting day-to-day platform operations. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
