Our client is a global apparel brand looking to hire a DevOps Engineer to join their IT and Digital team in Shanghai. Sponsored by the Global team, this role will own day-to-day DevOps operations on our AliCloud (Alibaba Cloud) environment — infrastructure, containers, and CI/CD — to keep business systems highly available and continuously deployed. The role also supports basic cloud security configuration and helps align operations with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework as a secondary priority. Key Responsibilities Own AliCloud infrastructure operations: ACK (K8s) clusters, ALB, CDN, RDS/DTS — configuration, monitoring, and hardening. Manage and optimize CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, cloud-native pipeline tooling), embedding automation and basic security checks into the deployment workflow. Configure core cloud security controls as needed (RAM/STS, KMS, Cloud Firewall, WAF, Security Center) to support compliance and defense requirements. Support alignment of cloud operations with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework's five core functions, in coordination with the Global team. Independently drive assigned technical initiatives end-to-end, owning delivery quality and timelines. Skills & Experience Must-have AliCloud (Alibaba Cloud) hands-on DevOps expert — top priority. 2+ years running production DevOps on AliCloud specifically, able to independently resolve infrastructure and platform issues. Proficient with ACK, ACR, ALB, RDS, DTS, Redis, RabbitMQ, OSS, CDN, ECS, kubectl, and CI/CD pipelines (Yunxiao and/or GitHub Actions). Proficient in Linux with Shell/Python/Node.js scripting; solid TCP/IP and cloud networking troubleshooting. General familiarity with cloud security basics (IAM/RAM, firewall, WAF) sufficient for routine configuration. Strong written English (working language) and spoken English for routine communication with the Global team. Preferred Familiarity with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework or a similar compliance standard. Terraform, ArgoCD, or other IaC tooling; multi-cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure); relevant certifications (CISSP, CISA, CCSP, or AliCloud DevOps/security certs). Soft Skills Strong ownership mindset — proactively identifies and resolves issues without hand-holding. Effective as an individual contributor while collaborating with local and Global teams. Adaptable, able to reprioritize in a fast-changing environment.

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
