Position Overview The Proposal Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and compliant technical and commercial quotations in response to customer RFQs, RFPs, and tenders. The role acts as a key bridge between Sales, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations to ensure every proposal is technically sound, cost-effective, and aligned with customer requirements and company capabilities. Key Responsibilities1. RFQ and Tender Analysis Review and interpret customer RFQs, RFPs, ITTs, tender documents, technical specifications, drawings, standards, and delivery requirements. Identify ambiguities, raise clarification queries, and define assumptions and exclusions. Determine the technical scope, deliverables, and compliance requirements. 2. Technical Solution Development Develop tailored technical solutions that meet customer requirements while optimizing cost and minimizing risk. Perform basic engineering calculations, layout concepts, and feasibility checks as required. Evaluate alternative configurations and value-engineering options to improve competitiveness. 3. Cost Estimation and Commercial Input Prepare detailed cost estimates for equipment, engineering, manufacturing, logistics, installation, and services. Coordinate with Procurement to obtain vendor and subcontractor quotations for bought-out items and third-party services. Work with Finance and Commercial teams to develop pricing, margins, payment terms, and commercial conditions. 4. Proposal Preparation and Submission Prepare complete techno-commercial proposals, including technical write-ups, datasheets, drawings, BOMs, compliance matrices, schedules, and terms and conditions. Ensure proposals meet internal approval processes and customer tender requirements. Maintain organized proposal documentation for audit, handover, and future reference. 5. Cross-Functional Coordination Collaborate with Engineering, Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Project Management teams to validate technical feasibility and execution plans. Act as a technical interface for Sales during customer meetings, bid clarifications, and negotiations. Support the handover of awarded projects to Projects and Operations teams. 6. Market and Competitor Awareness Monitor competitor offerings and market trends to improve proposal positioning. Contribute to the continuous improvement of proposal templates, costing tools, processes, and best practices. Required Qualifications and Skills Education Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or a related Engineering discipline. Experience 4 to 6 years of experience in technical sales, estimation, proposal engineering, or a similar role, preferably in an OEM, EPC, or engineering services environment. Technical Skills Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals relevant to the company's product line. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and applicable engineering standards. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with CAD or PLM tools is an advantage. Commercial Skills Good understanding of costing, pricing, and margin concepts. Ability to balance technical requirements with commercial competitiveness. Soft Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to manage multiple RFQs under tight deadlines. Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and risk awareness. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with German or European OEMs and familiarity with their proposal processes and documentation standards. Knowledge of international tendering practices, including public sector, oil and gas, infrastructure, and industrial projects. Experience with proposal management tools or CRM systems. Knowledge of German or other regional languages is an advantage. Reporting and Collaboration Reports to: Head of Sales Engineering, Proposal Manager, or Business Development Manager, depending on the company structure.
