JOB PURPOSE: The Senior Accountant leads day-to-day accounting operations for the accounting team in Erbil or Baghdad, ensuring the general ledger is accurate, complete and compliant, and supervising the Accountant and Cashier to deliver a timely, well-controlled close. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: General Ledger Integrity & Complete Booking Own and ensure the accurate, complete and timely booking of all transactions across every balance-sheet and profit-and-loss section — capital, fixed assets, inventory, payables and receivables, cash and banks, and expenses and revenues — in line with IFRS, local rules and Group policy. Review and approve entries booked by the team and ensure the general ledger fully and correctly reflects all accounting areas. Month-End Close & Reconciliations Drive the local close accruals, prepayments, provisions and balance-sheet reconciliations — and clear reconciling items promptly. AP / AR Oversight Oversee accounts payable and receivable processing, supplier and customer reconciliations and ageing management. Fixed Asset Accounting & Register Maintain the fixed-asset register, ensuring correct capitalisation, accurate depreciation runs, and proper recording of additions, transfers and disposals, and support periodic physical verification of assets in line with IFRS and Group policy. Payroll Accounting & Provisions Book payroll, social-security and related deductions and maintain provisions for leave and end-of-service benefits, reconciling the accounting records to HR / payroll data and ensuring confidentiality of payroll information. Tax & Statutory Support Prepare accurate data for local filings and support audit and statutory reporting requests. Controls & Documentation Apply accounting and financial controls and maintain complete, well-organised supporting documentation and audit trails. Supervision of Accountant & Cashier Allocate work, review output and develop the Accountant and Cashier, ensuring quality, cover and adherence to deadlines. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance; part-qualification (ACCA / CPA) is a plus. 3-5 years of solid accounting experience including period-end close and reconciliations, ideally in a multi-entity environment. Good knowledge of IFRS and local tax / accounting requirements. Supervisory ability, attention to detail and integrity. Good communication skills in English and Arabic (Kurdish a plus). Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems.
