Based in Nairobi County, Kenya, Motif Interior Designs Ltd partners closely with clients to transform concepts into refined, built environments. Role Description The Furniture Technical Designer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Nairobi County, Kenya. The designer will prepare detailed technical drawings, shop drawings, and 3D models for custom furniture and cabinetry, ensuring designs meet structural, functional, and aesthetic requirements. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with interior designers, project managers, and workshop teams to translate design concepts into production-ready documentation, specifying materials and finishes, and updating drawings based on client and site feedback. The role involves reviewing measurements, coordinating with manufacturing and installation teams, maintaining accurate project records, and adhering to quality, budget, and timeline expectations. The Furniture Technical Designer also supports continuous improvement in design standards, sustainability practices, and production efficiency. Qualifications Strong technical design skills, including proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar) for furniture and cabinetry detailing. Experience reading and producing construction drawings, shop drawings, and 3D visualizations for interior fit-outs and bespoke woodworking. Knowledge of furniture construction methods, joinery techniques, hardware selection, and appropriate materials and finishes for high-quality interiors. Understanding of sustainable material options and ability to integrate environmental considerations into design decisions. Effective collaboration skills with designers, architects, workshop teams, and installers, with clear visual and written communication. Strong organizational abilities, including time management, attention to detail, and capability to handle multiple projects concurrently. Relevant diploma or degree in Interior Design, Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Architecture, or a closely related field. Previous experience in a joinery, millwork, or interior fit-out environment is highly advantageous. Ability to work on-site in Nairobi County, Kenya, and participate in site visits, measurements, and installation reviews as required.
