Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) is seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join the Planning, Construction & Maintenance Division. The role involves responsibility for the management, operation, maintenance, development, and integration of building control and automation systems across the University, including HVAC, electrical systems, fire detection and suppression, energy management, elevators, access control, and CCTV systems. Key Responsibilities: Manage, operate, and maintain the University’s building control and automation systems. Develop annual work plans for the development, adaptation, operation, and maintenance of control systems. Define technical requirements and specifications for dedicated control systems and ensure their integration with existing infrastructure. Review and approve control system designs prepared by planners and consultants. Support contractor selection for control systems in new construction and renovation projects. Provide engineering supervision for the implementation, commissioning, and integration of new control systems. Review project quantities, accounts, and related documentation. Manage maintenance frameworks and supervise contractors performing control and automation work. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences or Engineering ; a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering is preferred . At least 4 years of relevant professional experience . Hands-on experience in control and automation systems . Experience with HVAC control and energy management systems . Experience managing Building Management System (BMS) projects . Experience with central control software; experience with Saia, UniArt, or Sniper is an advantage. Experience with BMS, SCADA, HMI, and PLC-based control systems . Experience with communication protocols including BACnet, Modbus, OPC, and TCP/IP . Certified Electrician license . If you hold an academic degree from an institution outside of Israel, you must provide an official certificate issued by the Department for the Evaluation of Foreign Academic Degrees at the Israeli Ministry of Education. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
