The opportunity As a Data Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data platforms that enable reliable, high-quality data for business users and analytical solutions. You will work closely with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure data is accessible, accurate, and efficiently processed. The role involves integrating data from multiple sources, optimizing data workflows, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our data architecture and engineering practices. You will also help ensure that our data solutions are secure, resilient, and aligned with the organization's technology standards. Day-to-day Responsibilities Core Responsibilities Build Data Pipelines: Design, implement, and maintain scalable, robust automated data pipelines. Manage Data Architecture: Optimize and structure databases, modern data warehouses, and data lakes. Integrate Systems: Connect and ingest data from diverse sources including APIs, CRMs, production logs, and databases. Performance Tuning: Write complex, optimized SQL queries and continuously monitor database system performance. Data Quality & Governance: Establish data validation frameworks and ensure compliance with internal security and data privacy standards. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Data Scientists, Business Analysts, and Backend Software Engineers to deliver clean datasets. Requirements (Must-Have) Who are we looking for Experience: 4+ years of professional, hands-on experience in a Data Engineering or Data Developer role. SQL: Advanced proficiency in writing and tuning complex SQL queries. Programming: Solid programming skills in Java Cloud & Modern Data Stack: Hands-on experience with cloud providers and cloud warehouses. Data Orchestration: Strong familiarity with workflow management tools Communication: Fluency in English (written and spoken) to collaborate effectively with a global team. Nice-to-Have Skills Experience with CI/CD tools and containerization. Familiarity with streaming technologies. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one.
