The role requires deep expertise in Azure infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code, AKS, networking, CI/CD and programming. This is an engineering-focused DevOps role. The successful candidate must be able to code, build reusable automation and deploy applications and infrastructure in production environments, rather than only configure or support existing systems. Key Responsibilities • Azure Infrastructure & Production Deployments - Design, deploy and maintain secure, scalable Azure infrastructure for production workloads. - Build and manage Infrastructure as Code using Bicep or ARM templates. - Own production deployment activities, release readiness, rollback planning and operational validation. - Troubleshoot complex Azure infrastructure, application and deployment issues. • Azure Networking & Security - Design and support Azure networking solutions including Virtual Networks, subnetting, Private Link, private endpoints and private DNS zones. - Implement secure connectivity, identity, secrets management and network isolation patterns. - Collaborate with application and security teams to ensure production environments meet enterprise standards. • Kubernetes & Container Platforms - Deploy and operate containerized applications on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). - Manage Kubernetes deployments, services, ingress, configuration, secrets, scaling, health probes and production troubleshooting. - Improve reliability, observability and deployment consistency across AKS environments. • CI/CD & Automation - Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or comparable tools. - Automate infrastructure provisioning, application deployments, validation and operational tasks through code. - Integrate security checks, testing, approvals and deployment controls into delivery pipelines. • Software Engineering & Collaboration - Develop automation and platform utilities using Python or another programming language. - Apply software engineering practices such as source control, code reviews, testing, modular design and documentation. - Work closely with developers, architects, QA and cloud teams to support end-to-end delivery. Required Technical Skills & Competencies • 8+ years of relevant software engineering, cloud engineering or DevOps experience. • Strong hands-on experience deploying applications and infrastructure into production Azure environments. • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Bicep or ARM templates. • Deep Azure infrastructure knowledge across compute, identity, storage, networking, security and monitoring. • Strong Azure networking fundamentals, specifically Private Link, private endpoints, private DNS zones, Virtual Networks and subnetting. • Strong Kubernetes knowledge with hands-on production experience in Azure Kubernetes Service. • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tools. • Hands-on programming proficiency in at least one language, preferably Python. The candidate must clearly state the language and proficiency level. • Prior software development experience and the ability to write maintainable automation and platform code. Must-Have Skills • Production Azure deployment experience. • Production-level AKS and Kubernetes experience. • Bicep or ARM-based Infrastructure as Code. • Azure networking, including Private Link and DNS zones. • GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD tooling. • Programming capability, preferably Python. • Previous hands-on software development experience. Desired Attributes • Strong engineering mindset with the ability to automate rather than rely on manual processes. • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills. • Strong ownership of production quality, security, reliability and deployment outcomes. • Clear communication and effective collaboration across distributed teams. • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
