Giving Clinicians the Full Picture Ounas Health is a Finnish health-tech startup building the tools clinicians need to actually see what's going on with their patients - not fragments spread across ten systems, but one coherent view: imaging, EMR data, biometrics, clinical guidelines, etc., all in one view. We're starting in eye care and building towards the rest of healthcare. We're less than a year old, funded, and moving fast. Small team, high trust, real ownership from day one. Our founders have built and sold health-tech companies before, and they're putting that experience to work here. The role We are looking for our first Product Designer to shape the user experience, user interface, and design system across the Ounas Health product portfolio. At Ounas, we work with complex clinical workflows, imaging data, and healthcare system environments. Your role is to turn that complexity into products that are clear, efficient, and pleasant to use for clinical professionals. We benchmark ourselves against the best consumer applications, not only traditional healthcare software. This is a deliberate choice and the main reason this role exists: excellent user experience is an essential part of our product, not a layer added at the end. As our first dedicated designer, you will combine hands-on product design with building the foundations for design at Ounas. You will establish the design system, practices, usability engineering process, and tools that the product team can build on as the company grows. You will join a small product team where product management, design, and software development work closely together as one team. You will lead design in your own area while also contributing to product definition, requirements, documentation, prioritisation, and ways of working. We build regulated medical device software, so design decisions must be documented and traceable. Done badly, this becomes bureaucracy. Done well, it is simply a disciplined way of understanding why the product is the way it is — and that is how we intend to approach it. What Product Designer will do at Ounas Health Design user journeys, clinical workflows, concepts, prototypes, wireframes, and final user interfaces across our product portfolio. Establish and own the Ounas design system as a shared asset across our products. Plan and conduct user research in clinical environments and turn insight into design and product decisions. Lead usability engineering, including use and user interface specifications, formative and summative evaluations, and the usability engineering file. Contribute to use-related risk analysis, requirements, use cases, feature definition, and product documentation. Work closely with developers throughout implementation to ensure that the final product reflects the intended experience. Support product planning, prioritisation, lifecycle management, and the development of product team processes and tools. It is also worth stating openly that we are an early-stage company. The role comes with considerable autonomy and influence, but also ambiguity, changing priorities, and practical work outside neatly defined boundaries. We work with limited resources and aim for thoughtful, proportionate solutions rather than unnecessary process or perfection. What we are looking for Experience in product, UI/UX, or interaction design, including end-to-end responsibility for a product or substantial product area. The ability to turn complex workflows and information into clear and usable products. Strong design judgement and the ability to explain and defend design decisions. Experience in design systems and modern design and prototyping tools. We need someone to take ownership of these areas. Any of the following would help you get started, but we do not expect one person to have them all: A structured and pragmatic approach: you can define good practices without making them heavier than the work requires. The ability and willingness to collaborate directly with developers, clinical experts, and customers. Experience in healthcare software, medical device software, or another regulated digital product. Experience designing high-quality consumer applications. Experience conducting research with specialist users in real working environments. You do not need to arrive with every answer. You do need to be comfortable taking ownership, learning a specialised clinical domain, and creating structure in an environment where not everything has been defined yet. Practicalities This is a full-time position. We prefer the candidate to start as soon as possible. We are prepared for the monthly salary to land somewhere between 4500€ and 6000€ depending on your background. In addition, eligible team members can join our stock option program so you will have a chance to actually own a piece of what we are building. We have offices in Helsinki, at Mäkelänkatu 2, and in Oulu, at Hallituskatu 13-19. At the current stage of the company we find it useful to work at the office together on several days of the week - especially when we brainstorm, plan, design and create. However, we do also work remotely when feeling like it. We do not offer relocation or immigration services. At Ounas, Co-Founder Anssi makes sure our people are happy and takes care of every HR matter. Co-Founder and CEO Ville sets the vision and supports in design decisions. Co-Founder Elisa translates the vision into a roadmaps and ensures our products are designed, developed and delivered as planned.
