We encourage you to Choose GNB!The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking an individual to join the Crop Sector Development Branch as a Regional Crop Officer, in Sussex.Who we are: The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is responsible for supporting growth, competitiveness and sustainability of these three sectors. We work collaboratively with industry, producers, researchers, indigenous communities, government partners and other stakeholders to support and advance opportunities in the primary and value-added agriculture, aquaculture and fishery sectors. As part of these initiatives, the Crop Sector Development Branch provides leadership, technical expertise, and advisory services to promote a sustainable, innovative, and competitive crop industry throughout the province. What you will do: As a member of the Crop Sector Development team, reporting to the section manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for working directly with agricultural producers, agri-business, associations, researchers, municipalities and other regional public and private stakeholders, to foster development, competitiveness and sustainability of New Brunswick's agricultural businesses.Key responsibilities:Provide technical advisory services to crop producers, including sustainable production practices.Deliver crop production-related funding programs, including the Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership (S-CAP).Lead the delivery of the Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program (RALP).Conduct inspections of beehives in the province in accordance with applicable legislation and departmental policies.Collaborate with producers, industry organizations, researchers, and government partners to identify opportunities that strengthen the crop sector.Participate in the planning, development and implementation of strategic initiatives related to agricultural production, research, innovation, technology adoption and environmental sustainability.Represent regional and departmental interests on crop production related committees, working groups, and industry forums at the regional, provincial, and national levels.Monitor emerging issues, technologies and opportunities affecting crop production and provide recommendations to support sector development.Perform duties related to emerging new and alternative crops, as requiredPerform Other related duties as assigned.Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following.Essential Qualifications:Agrologist 1: A Bachelor of Science degree with specialization in Agriculture or a closely related field.Agrologist 2: A Bachelor of Science degree with specialization in Agriculture or a closely related field, and a minimum of five (5) years of work experience related to crop production.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.Written and spoken competence in English is required.
