The Sawmill General Labourer is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the sawmill by performing a variety of general labour, material-handling, cleanup, and production-support duties. The successful candidate will work as part of a team and may be required to assist in different areas of the sawmill as operational needs dictate. Key Responsibilities * Assist with the daily operation and production activities of the sawmill. * Feed, move, stack, sort, and handle lumber, logs, slabs, edgings, and other wood products. * Operate basic equipment and machinery when trained and authorized to do so. * Remove wood waste, sawdust, and debris from production areas. * Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the mill. * Assist sawmill operators and other employees with production-related tasks. * Inspect lumber and wood products for quality and identify defects or irregularities. * Stack and bundle finished lumber safely and efficiently. * Assist with loading and unloading materials and products. * Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and basic equipment checks as directed. * Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment. * Report equipment problems, hazards, injuries, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor. * Assist with snow clearing, yard maintenance, and other general property maintenance as required. * Perform other duties as assigned by the Sawmill Supervisor or Management. Qualifications and Requirements * Previous sawmill, lumber, construction, industrial, or general labour experience is considered an asset. * Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and perform repetitive lifting and manual labour. * Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work for extended periods. * Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and moving equipment. * Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Good communication skills and a positive attitude. * Willingness to follow safety procedures and company policies. * Previous equipment operating experience is an asset. Working Conditions * Work is performed in a sawmill and outdoor yard environment. * Exposure to noise, dust, sawdust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures. * Personal protective equipment is required. * The position may require shift work, weekends, overtime, and extended hours depending on production requirements. Physical Requirements The position requires regular lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, and climbing. Employees must be physically capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position. Safety Safety is a fundamental responsibility of the Sawmill General Labourer. All employees are expected to follow company safety policies, attend required training, properly use personal protective equipment, and immediately report unsafe conditions or incidents.
