*Chess Instructor ? Part-Time* Canada U-Tutoring Learning Institute is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Chess Instructor to provide high-quality, in-person chess instruction to children and school-age students. The ideal candidate has a strong chess background, experience participating in competitive tournaments, and the ability to teach students ranging from beginners learning fundamental concepts to advanced players developing tournament-level strategies. Position: Chess Instructor Job Type: Part-time Pay: $28.00?$45.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience Expected Hours: Approximately 5?20 hours per week Work Location: In person Location: 200 Town Centre Blvd, Suite 203, Markham, ON L3R 8G5 *Key Responsibilities* * Deliver engaging, age-appropriate chess lessons for children and school-age students at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. * Teach chess fundamentals, opening principles, tactics, positional concepts, middle-game strategy, and endgame techniques. * Provide individual and small-group coaching based on each student's current skill level and learning goals. * Help students improve analytical thinking, calculation, decision-making, and overall chess performance. * Prepare students for chess tournaments and competitive play when appropriate. * Analyze student games and provide clear, constructive feedback. * Follow or contribute to a structured chess curriculum designed to support measurable student progress. * Maintain a positive, focused, disciplined, and encouraging classroom environment. * Communicate complex chess concepts in a clear and accessible way for children of different ages and ability levels. * Encourage sportsmanship, confidence, patience, and strategic thinking. *Qualifications* * Strong competitive chess background. * Previous participation in recognized chess tournaments is strongly preferred, including FIDE, CFC, USCF, or equivalent organized competitions. * A current or former chess rating of approximately 1800?2000+ or equivalent demonstrated playing strength is highly preferred. * Minimum 1?2 years of chess teaching, tutoring, coaching, or related instructional experience preferred. * Experience teaching or working with children and school-age students is strongly preferred. * Strong understanding of chess openings, tactical patterns, positional strategy, and classical endgames. * Ability to assess students' strengths and weaknesses and adjust instruction accordingly. * Native-level English proficiency with excellent verbal communication skills. * Ability to explain advanced chess concepts clearly and patiently to younger students. * Reliable, professional, organized, and comfortable managing individual and small-group classes. * Must be able to teach in person at our Markham learning centre. *Preferred Qualifications* * FIDE, CFC, USCF, or other recognized national chess rating. * Experience coaching students for competitive chess tournaments. * Experience developing chess lesson plans or structured curriculum. * Experience teaching students across multiple age groups and skill levels. * Strong record of helping students improve their chess ability or tournament performance. *Compensation* $28.00?$45.00 per hour.
