Tasks: Study market reports, trade periodicals and sales promotion materials. Arrange product according to planogram. Establish and maintain contact with suppliers. Maintain adequate stock levels. Negotiate prices, discounts, credit terms and transportation arrangements with suppliers. Provide customer service. Review requirements of establishment and determine quantity and type of merchandise to purchase. Select and purchase merchandise for resale. Visit trade shows, showrooms, factories and product design events. Schedule and assign duties of housekeeping staff. Prepare reports on sales volumes, merchandising and personnel matters. Authorize payments by cheque. Authorize return of merchandise. Resolve issues that may arise, including customer requests, complaints and supply shortages. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of workers. Hire and train or arrange for training of staff. Monitor staff performance . Supervision: 1 to 2 people. 3-4 people.
