Our Downtown Vancouver cafe at 689 Thurlow Street is looking to add a full-time, highly skilled, experienced in specialty coffee and hard-working barista. We take pride in our direct trade sourcing program and our green coffee buyer and coffee education team offer a wealth of knowledge and opportunity to learn about coffee. We offer competitive wages, a positive work environment, the opportunity for progression to leadership roles and extended benefits after one year of full time employment. *PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES* To provide exemplary service to all patrons of the café and ensure excellent product quality at all times. The role includes, but is not limited to: * Welcoming customers * Taking orders, making product recommendations to customers and processing transactions * Communicating special requirements to the kitchen * Organizing stock * Preparing and serving specialty coffee drinks including espresso-based beverages in line with 49th Parallel?s standards * General product knowledge as it relates to recipe ingredients and potential allergens. * Dialing-in and tasting espresso and coffees to ensure product quality * Assisting with newer staff and helping to train on in-café routines * General cleaning duties \*Other duties and special projects may be assigned from time to time. *QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS* * 1 year of experience in a hospitality / service environment * 1 year of experience in a specialty coffee focused position and experience preparing specialty espresso based beverages * Excellent customer service skills * Knowledge of coffee flavour notes and the ability to demonstrate a good palate * Working knowledge of POS systems * Experience providing staff training is an asset * VERY passionate about coffee 49th Parallel is an equal opportunity employer.
