Are you an ML Engineer with hands-on experience taking machine learning models from development all the way into production? Do you also have a strong foundation in data engineering and enjoy working independently in a collaborative team? Then this could be your next opportunity! ABOUT THE POSITION Friday is now looking for an ML Engineer with Data Engineering competence who wants to join a growing data product team. Over the past two years, the team has built a modern data platform with a strong focus on Databricks. The focus is now shifting towards building an intelligence layer that will enable advanced solutions such as forecasting, ranking, and recommendation systems. As an ML Engineer, your main focus will be applied machine learning. You will take ownership of models throughout their entire lifecycle, from development and deployment to monitoring and maintenance in production. At the same time, you will contribute to the underlying data platform when needed, making this a role where both your ML and data engineering skills will come into play. You’ll be part of a smaller, collaborative team consisting of Data Engineers, a Product Manager and an Engineering Manager. The team places great value on inclusiveness, psychological safety and different perspectives. The role offers a high level of ownership, giving you the opportunity to work proactively, contribute your own ideas and have a real impact on how the team's work develops. RESPONSIBILITIES: Design and develop ML models for forecasting, ranking and recommendation systems. Take full ownership of the model lifecycle, from development and deployment to monitoring and maintenance in production. Work closely with product teams to determine how model outputs should be integrated and used within the product. Contribute to the data platform, including data ingestion pipelines, observability and platform maintenance. Troubleshoot issues across both data pipelines and deployed ML models. Develop high-quality, maintainable code in line with established coding practices and conventions. WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO: Has 1–2 years of hands-on, end-to-end ML experience, including taking models into production. Has 3+ years of experience in data engineering or data-related software engineering in a cloud environment. Has strong hands-on experience with Databricks as well as Python and SQL. Has a solid understanding of data platform fundamentals, including data ingestion, observability and maintenance. Is familiar with modern software development and delivery practices. Has experience working in a cloud environment such as Azure, AWS or GCP. It is not required, but considered a plus if you have: Experience with additional cloud-based data or ML technologies. Experience contributing to the architecture and development of data platforms. As a person, we believe you are proactive, self-driven and solution-oriented. You enjoy taking ownership of your work and are comfortable navigating complex technical challenges independently. At the same time, you are a team player who enjoys sharing ideas, collaborating with others and contributing to a positive team environment. ABOUT THE EMPLOYMENT This is a consulting assignment, which means that you will initially be employed by Friday. The ambition from both the customer and Friday is for you to transition into direct employment with the customer. Start date: As soon as possible, but considering the notice period. Location: Gothenburg. Salary: Fixed monthly. Employment type: Full-time / Part-time ABOUT FRIDAY By being a partner to both our candidates and clients, we strive to find the best possible match. We do this by truly getting to know both our clients and candidates. Naturally, we make sure that skills and experience requirements align, but above all, we place great importance on shared values and a company culture that both parties appreciate. Our passion is helping people find the right role, workplace and professional environment within IT and technology. That is why we founded Friday, with the ambition of helping you find a job that gives you that Friday feeling – every day! We primarily focus on people who are at the beginning of their careers or are currently studying IT or engineering at a university or college. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
