Artefact Benelux in Utrecht is looking for an ambitious Forward Deployed Engineer to strengthen our Tech team. About the Role Depending on your background and the project, you'll focus on one or both tracks: Data Platform Build and maintain production-grade data pipelines using dbt, Spark, or Airflow, with a focus on performance, observability, and data quality. Architect end-to-end data platforms with robust data models to support analytical and operational use cases. AI & LLM Applications Design and deploy LLM-based solutions RAG systems, Knowledge Graphs, or agentic workflows — using frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex. Evaluate and integrate new AI tools and models to improve reliability and performance at scale. Across both tracks Work directly with clients to translate business needs into production-ready technical solutions. Write clean, maintainable Python and SQL, and communicate technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. What We Are Looking For We’re seeking someone who has: Fluency in English (mandatory); Dutch or French is a plus. Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 1 to 3 years of relevant experience (or equivalent), in Data Engineer, AI Engineer or similar role Strong Python and SQL skills, with a focus on production-quality code. Familiarity with ETL/ELT principles or LLM orchestration frameworks, depending on your track Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS, or Databricks) (Professional Certification is a plus). Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
