About the Role Wing is looking for a Senior Packaging Design Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA . Operating as a technical authority and key partner across hardware and operations, you will help define, design, and commercialize structural packaging solutions across logistics, customer-facing interactions, and specialized hardware projects. In this role, you will provide deep subject-matter expertise and Design for Manufacturability guidance to cross-functional partners—including providing specialized packaging design advice to aircraft design owners—while balancing structural protection, user experience, unit cost, and sustainability. What You’ll Do Provide packaging design expertise and technical guidance across logistics, customer touchpoints, and specialized hardware projects, collaborating closely with aircraft design owners to align packaging solutions with vehicle-level constraints. Select optimal materials and processes to balance structural integrity, cost, and user experience. Define test requirements for packaging tests and guide Contract Manufacturers in establishing evaluation methods for package designs, ensuring reliability and performance. Support equipment, line, and transit trials alongside cross-functional and manufacturing partners, establishing standard testing methodologies and analyzing empirical data to resolve root causes of field failures. Author and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including packaging specifications, CAD drawings, process instructions, and BOMs, while ensuring quality standards, artwork compliance, and regulatory documentation across product lines. Partner with Procurement and Operations to evaluate cost estimates, drive value analysis, and optimize packaging mass, landed costs, fulfillment speed, stack density, and material standardization. What You’ll Need Minimum of 8+ years of direct experience as a Packaging Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, or Industrial Designer, with a track record of developing, validating, and commercializing complex packaging solutions. Advanced knowledge of packaging design principles, structural mechanics, converting/molding technologies, and hybrid packaging structures. Expert-level command of 2D/3D CAD platforms (e.g., ArtiosCAD, Esko, SolidWorks, CATIA) and palletization/pack-density software (e.g., CAPE, TOPS). Familiarity with industry-standard package testing protocols, including transit simulation and structural integrity testing, to ensure reliability across product life cycles. Outstanding communication skills, with a proven ability to translate user experience and operational requirements into technical specifications and explain DFM constraints clearly to diverse stakeholders. Proven ability to work collaboratively in shared-ownership environments, navigate high-ambiguity trade-offs, and drive multiple complex projects to completion. Proven ability to convert product and business needs into detailed technical specifications for internal and external development initiatives. Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally as required. The US base salary range for this full-time position is the salary range below + bonus + equity + benefits.
