Team Lead - Software Engineer As a Software Engineering Team Lead based in Singapore, you will lead a team of highly skilled software engineers responsible for building and evolving Adyen's Global Cards platform for the APAC region. Your team plays a critical role in developing scalable, reliable, and resilient payment capabilities that power card transactions for merchants across APAC. You'll work closely with Product Managers, Architects, and Engineering teams to deliver new functionality across the Cards domain, while continuously improving the performance, scalability, and reliability of our platform. As a people leader, you'll coach and develop engineers, foster a culture of ownership, and help shape the technical direction of one of Adyen's core payment domains. As part of Adyen's global engineering organisation, you'll collaborate closely with teams across Europe, APAC, and North America to build products that scale globally. What you'll do Lead, coach, and develop a team of Software Engineers, supporting both their technical and professional growth. Foster a high-performing engineering culture built on ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning. Partner closely with Product Managers to translate business priorities into scalable technical solutions. Drive the technical direction of the team, balancing product delivery with long-term platform scalability, resilience, and maintainability. Guide architectural discussions and engineering decisions across the Cards domain while empowering engineers to own technical solutions. Deliver highly reliable and scalable software that supports global card payment methods, including authorisation, routing, settlement, and scheme integrations. Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Architects, and Team Leads across Adyen to improve engineering practices and execution. Act as an escalation point for complex technical challenges, helping the team navigate ambiguity and make thoughtful engineering trade-offs. Continuously improve engineering quality through better testing, observability, operational excellence, and developer productivity. Authoring Adyen’s Credit Card Payments strategy in APAC, balancing product delivery with long-term platform scalability, resilience, and maintainability. Who you are You have experience leading and developing high-performing software engineering teams. You have a strong software engineering background building large-scale, distributed systems in Java or similar backend technologies. You enjoy coaching engineers through technical mentorship, regular feedback, and career development. You're comfortable leading technical discussions, facilitating architectural decisions, and balancing engineering quality with business priorities. You have experience working closely with Product Managers and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions. You have strong problem-solving skills and enjoy tackling complex technical challenges at scale. Experience building payment systems or working within the cards payments ecosystem (e.g. authorisation, routing, card schemes, issuer/acquirer integrations) is highly desirable. You're passionate about building resilient, scalable systems and continuously improving engineering practices. You thrive in collaborative, globally distributed engineering teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders across different functions and regions. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully.
