Job Overview Jensen Hughes is seeking two Mid-level or Senior Fire Protection Engineer position in our Concord, CA office location. This strategic growth position calls for an experienced candidate who can work directly with clients and perform their own technical work (“Seller Doer”). Experience with sprinkler/fire alarm systems and/or hazardous materials is preferred. Relocation assistance will be provided. Responsibilities Manage and implement a wide variety of consulting projects. Satisfy client needs and expectations by completing assigned tasks on schedule and within budget. Coordinate and conduct building and fire code reviews and analyses, including plan reviews and site visits. Prepare and peer review of project-related technical reports. Develop fire protection strategies, performance-based design approaches, and alternative solutions to resolve client design issues. Effectively communicate with project team members, clients, and others. Requirements and Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering (preferably Fire Protection), Architecture, or related field. 8+ years of experience in Building Code and Fire Protection Consulting. Registered Professional Engineer (PE), preferably in Fire Protection Engineering or other professional designation in Fire Protection, is highly desirable (such as NICET Level IV in any of the Fire Protection certifications). The ideal candidate will be a "Doer Seller," with client connections and ability to develop new business. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with developing building code concepts and equivalencies, conducting building plan reviews, and conducting field reviews/inspections. Experience with project management or specific responsibilities for any portion of large complex projects is preferred. Ability to present clear and technically sound fire protection engineering strategies. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
