About the Role Join PubMatic to build the future of performance advertising at internet scale. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about designing high-performance, low-latency, privacy-first backend systems that power smarter ad decisioning and deliver stronger outcomes for buyers, publishers, and DSP partners. In this role, you will work at the heart of the programmatic advertising ecosystem, building next-generation capabilities across real-time bidding, targeting, optimization, attribution readiness, and auction intelligence. You will help shape systems that improve bid efficiency, win rate, fill rate, yield, buyer spend performance, and platform reliability—all while operating within evolving privacy and signal constraints. This is an opportunity for a strong backend engineer with deep ad-tech and performance advertising expertise, especially across SSP-DSP workflows, OpenRTB, real-time decisioning, privacy-aware signal usage, and optimization systems. You will collaborate closely with Product, Data Science, DSP Partnerships, Publisher teams, and SRE to build ML-driven, data-informed platforms that directly influence campaign performance and marketplace efficiency. If you are excited by the challenge of solving complex, real-time, high-scale engineering problems and want to make a measurable impact in performance advertising, this role offers a chance to build systems that sit on the critical path of digital media outcomes. What You'll Do Develop, benchmark, and deploy real-time bidding (RTB) algorithms, pacing controls, and predictive models aimed squarely at maximizing ROAS and conversion tracking across all screens (CTV, Mobile App, Video, and Desktop). Use best practices for software development and documentation, ensure designs meet requirements, and deliver high-quality work. Write high-performance, low-latency, and memory-efficient code (Python, Go, or C++) matching our ultra-scaled backend layer that processes trillions of daily requests. Demonstrated ability to self-direct and work independently. Demonstrate work ownership and focus to deliver on time. Willing to go extra mile to achieve greater results. Work with teams to achieve desired goals. Demonstrate timely and excellent verbal and written communication skills. We'd Love for You to Have Four plus years of development experience in Go language, Linux/UNIX environment. Good to have experience with C/C++ language. Excellent understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms. Excellent problem-solving skills. Being able to use generative AI-based tools and IDE for getting work done. Understanding of different models at basic level. Prompt engineering basics. Knowledge of OS and system programming (multi-threading, multi-processing, memory management). Troubleshoot any issues with existing features, live on production. Ability to write clean, modular, and loosely coupled code. Ability to understand end-to-end product functionality. Ability to do software design for assigned tasks. Working knowledge of scripting Perl/Python/Shell. Working experience in databases, preferably MySQL. Work closely with senior engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in AI-assisted coding, automation, prompt engineering, and an understanding of the strengths and limitations of LLM-generated code is a strong plus. AI-Enabled Engineering Mindset We value engineers who actively leverage Generative AI tools and IDEs (e.g. GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Windsurf etc.) to accelerate development, improve code quality, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance documentation and debugging workflows. Engineers who demonstrate AI-first thinking using these tools to drive faster experimentation, ideation, and technical execution will thrive in our high-scale, performance-critical environment. Qualifications: Should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering (CS / IT) or equivalent degree from well-known Institutes / Universities. Additional Information: Return to Office : PubMatic employees throughout the global have returned to our offices via a hybrid work schedule (3 days “in office” and 2 days “working remotely”) that is intended to maximize collaboration, innovation, and productivity among teams and across functions. Benefits : Our benefits package includes the best of what leading organizations provide, such as paternity/maternity leave, healthcare insurance, broadband reimbursement. As well, when we’re back in the office, we all benefit from a kitchen loaded with healthy snacks and drinks and catered lunches and much more! We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. About PubMatic PubMatic is one of the world’s leading scaled digital advertising platforms, offering more transparent advertising solutions to publishers, media buyers, commerce companies and data owners, allowing them to harness the power and potential of the open internet to drive better business outcomes. Founded in 2006 with the vision that data-driven decisioning would be the future of digital advertising, we enable content creators to run a more profitable advertising business, which in turn allows them to invest back into the multi-screen and multi-format content that consumers demand.

Here's how to pick the right one and stand out in your application.

144.883Jobs

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
