Xometry is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to define and lead the long-term technical architecture and execution for a key global platform critical to Xometry's success (e.g., Buyer Experience, Partner Experience, Pricing, Quality, Sourcing, etc.). This role is a senior technical leadership position responsible for driving engineering excellence and digital transformation through customer-centric, AI-driven engineering solutions. As a founding Principal Software Engineer for Xometry's India PDT team, you will be instrumental in elevating engineering practice, influencing cross-functional leaders, and ensuring our marketplace systems deliver measurable business value at scale. You will be partnering closely with product and engineering leadership across Xometry's global offices. Responsibilities AI-Driven Development Set the standard for AI-native development across the org, coaching Staff and Senior engineers on integrating AI tooling into architecture, design, and delivery to drive measurable speed and quality gains. Software Development & Technical Craft Lead architectural design and technical direction for systems spanning multiple teams, ensuring they are extensible, scalable, and built to enterprise-grade standards. Introduce architectural patterns that get adopted as organizational standards, not just single-project fixes. Problem Solving & Technical Judgment Tackle complex challenges involving data gravity, security, and system coupling across teams and organizational boundaries. Exercise sound judgment selecting architectural approaches that hold up as usage and team size grow. Code Quality & Mentorship Define code review and quality standards adopted across the engineering organization. Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews and architectural discussions, setting the technical bar for the team. Scope & Operational Excellence Own strategic technical direction and execution of multi-quarter roadmaps for your platform area. Define reliability, security, and operational standards that meet enterprise-grade expectations. Collaboration & Communication Act as the primary technical point of contact between the Bangalore team and Xometry's global engineering leadership. Communicate technical strategy and tradeoffs clearly to both engineering and business stakeholders. Founding & Scaling Xometry's India PDT Serve as a founding Principal Engineer for Xometry's India PDT, establishing strong engineering practices and building a high-performing team. Set a high technical bar and mentor engineers across architecture, delivery, and technical execution as the team scales. Qualifications 12+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of leading complex, multi-quarter initiatives. Deep technical expertise across Xometry's core stack: Python (backend services, APIs), React/TypeScript (frontend), and AWS cloud infrastructure. Deep, hands-on fluency with modern AI development tools (AI coding assistants, agentic dev tools, AI-assisted code review), with a demonstrated ability to use them to compress delivery timelines and to coach others in adopting them effectively. Significant experience with system architecture, microservices design, and distributed systems, particularly systems that operate cleanly across multiple teams or organizational boundaries. A track record of introducing architectural patterns that get adopted as organizational standards, not just single-project fixes. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, comfortable engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, from junior ICs to executives, across geographies and time zones.
