We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Core Banking Services team and help build and scale a high-performance Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform. The team develops secure, highly available backend services that enable internal products and partner banks to manage customers, accounts, and core banking processes. You will work on distributed systems supporting critical financial operations, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, security, and clean architecture. Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Node.js/TypeScript. Build and maintain REST APIs and event-driven services within a serverless AWS architecture. Work with AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, API Gateway, EventBridge, DynamoDB, and S3. Contribute to the design and evolution of distributed systems supporting core banking processes. Take part in architectural and technical decisions, solution design, and technical documentation. Collaborate with other engineering teams and external partners to define and manage system integrations and dependencies. Develop reliable and well-tested solutions, covering unit, integration, and system testing. Work with Infrastructure as Code and contribute to improving CI/CD pipelines and development processes. Participate in threat modeling and contribute to building secure and resilient services. Take ownership of production reliability, including participation in an on-call rotation, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and hotfixes. Proactively identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and engineering practices. Requirements: 5+ years of commercial Java backend development experience. Strong hands-on experience with Node.js/TypeScript. Solid experience building distributed and event-driven systems. Strong practical experience with AWS, particularly serverless services such as Lambda, SQS, API Gateway, EventBridge, DynamoDB, and S3. Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform and/or AWS CDK. Good understanding and practical application of software design patterns and clean architecture principles. Experience with RESTful API design and OpenAPI. Strong testing experience, including unit and integration testing. Experience working with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to take ownership of technical solutions and work independently. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Fluent English. Nice to Have: Experience with monorepo setups, such as pnpm workspaces or similar. Experience with MySQL and ORM technologies such as Prisma. Experience with DynamoDB or other NoSQL databases. Previous experience in banking, fintech, payments, or other highly regulated domains. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully.
