We follow a Tribes and Squads model, with multiple product teams currently hiring Backend Engineers. Depending on your interests and experience, you could be building anything from Sports and Gaming features to player-focused experiences covering registration, deposits, withdrawals, player engagement, and retention. Every squad plays a key role in delivering seamless, secure, and engaging user experiences — and your work will directly impact how we stand out in a highly competitive market. What the role involves Collaborate closely with geographically distributed engineering teams to design and implement scalable and robust software solutions. Enhance the existing platform to increase the amount of business functionality driven by end-user configuration. Enhance system automation across scale, resiliency, and deployment. Maintain, enhance, and create common platform components and libraries (AWS, Go, Python, Erlang, Kafka). Build on our cloud-native platform, enabling greater use of AWS technology to accelerate delivery, scale, and resiliency. Build on our observability tooling and infrastructure to better understand the capabilities of our systems. Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organisation to understand and drive requirements and improvements across the platform. Lead initiatives and tasks, driving them to completion and championing continuous improvement to enhance team productivity and efficiency. Grow the engineering community by building on existing processes and practices. What we are looking for A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a large-scale production environment. Experience engineering high-quality, highly scalable software in an object-oriented or functional language. Willingness to learn new technologies (we work with Golang, Python, Erlang, and Elixir). A talent for clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing, and continuous deployment. Experience working with distributed systems. Experience building and improving upon observability. A passion for working in the cloud and automation. A passion for creating user-centric, data-driven solutions. Nice to have Experience with AWS (CloudFormation, MSK, S3, Cognito, etc.). An interest in functional programming. Knowledge of Kafka. Front-end development experience in React or Vue.js. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
