Senior Software Engineer – FinCore Engineering Location: Madrid, Spain (Hybrid: 4 days in-office, 1 day remote) Power the Engine of Global Foreign Exchange Ebury’s FinCore Engineering team builds the financial backbone of our business. We handle multi-currency accounting systems and real-time foreign currency exchange for thousands of global clients. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help modernize our platform, reduce technical debt, and engineer high-throughput systems operating in a regulated environment. Joining a collaborative, distributed team across Europe and South America, you will lead high-impact initiatives, influence platform architecture, and directly shape our next-generation FX engine. How You’ll Make an Impact Architect Next-Gen FX: Design and scale platform services alongside engineering leaders using our Request for Comments (RFC) process. Lead end-to-end Delivery: Partner with Product and Operations from initial discovery to production rollout, ensuring seamless alignment across teams. Practice Full Ownership: Live our "you build it, you run it" culture—taking complete responsibility for design, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance. Refactor & Modernize: Analyze legacy workflows, identify technical debt, and execute strategic improvements to elevate platform performance. Elevate the Engineering Culture: Mentor junior developers, participate in code reviews, and drive best practices in continuous integration and automated testing. What You’ll Bring System Expertise: Deep experience building complex backend software systems (Python is our primary stack, but strong OOP backgrounds in Java, C#, or Go are welcome). Domain Knowledge: Background in FinTech, banking, or regulated financial environments with an understanding of core accounting principles and multi-currency transactions. DevOps & Observability: Hands-on experience designing RESTful APIs, integrating monitoring/alerting, and working with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform). Engineering Standards: Commitment to robust testing (unit/integration) and clean architecture. Cross-Border Collaboration: Professional English fluency (written and spoken) to work effectively across time zones. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
