Tasks You lead and develop a software engineering team of approximately 15 engineers building our Website Builder Application – driving roadmap delivery, technical excellence and team performance. You are accountable for the architectural direction, code quality, reliability and continuous evolution of the Website Builder Application in close collaboration with Product Management and stakeholders. You educate, coach and grow your engineers, set clear goals and create an environment in which people do their best work and continuously develop. You drive our “AI first” initiative within your team and embed AI methods and tools deeply into daily engineering and product work. You design and run continuous learning, training and enablement formats so every team member builds AI fluency and applies it confidently in their day-to-day. You collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, other engineering teams and stakeholders to shape priorities, unblock delivery and create business impact. As a secondary responsibility, you act as the on-site representative for our Cologne development office and take care of selected operational and organizational topics around office, culture and employee experience. Qualifications Several years of experience leading software engineering teams of 15+ people, ideally in web applications, SaaS or website builder products. Strong technical background in modern web technologies, distributed systems and agile delivery – credible and impactful with senior engineers. Proven track record of shipping high-quality web or SaaS products at scale and continuously improving engineering practices, quality and velocity. Hands-on experience with AI and GenAI tools and a clear vision for how AI changes engineering and product workflows. Strong people leadership skills: hiring, coaching, performance management and the ability to build a strong, inclusive team culture. Hands-on mentality and ownership combined with the ability to balance technical depth with strategic thinking and clear prioritization. Strong verbal and written German skills (English is a big plus), and willingness to take on light operational site-representative duties for the Cologne office. Benefits Hybrid working model. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
