About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated graduate civil and structural engineer to join our expanding team. The successful candidate will assist in the preparation of high-quality engineering design for a broad range of civil and structural engineering projects. All work carried out in accordance with company ISO 9001 procedures. This challenging and rewarding position requires an ambitious mindset, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will primarily work on projects across the West of Ireland, with Galway / Castlebar as their local ORS office base. This provides the opportunity to lead and develop a strong regional project portfolio while working as part of ORS’s wider multidisciplinary team. Key Responsibilities Assist in the planning, design, and execution of civil and structural engineering projects, including water resources, group water schemes, retail and residential developments. Prepare detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications using software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other industry-standard tools. Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support project designs and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards. Work closely with senior engineers, project managers, and other team members to ensure successful project delivery. Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to understand project needs and provide technical support. Revise drawings and layouts to accommodate changes and enhancements. Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate project progress and findings. Ensure accurate and up-to-date project records and documentation. Willingness and responsive to the demands and coordination of other design team professionals, clients and contractors. Conduct site visits and surveys to gather data and assess project requirements. Essential Requirements Level 8 qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent A master's degree beneficial but not essential. Experience working on a wide range of projects is beneficial. You must also have strong working knowledge of the current Irish Building Regulations Full working knowledge of British and Eurocode Design Standards for Concrete, Steel, Masonry and timber. You must be proficient using AutoCAD/Revit and be capable of preparing detailed technical designs & drawings to an exceptional standard. A good knowledge of Robot, Staad PRO-QSE or similar is essential. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
