Introduction We seek individuals who are experienced in the field of advanced process control systems with a specific focus on furnace control onsite installations and furnace optimisation. Needs to exercise a high degree of judgement, creativity and foresight. The preferred candidate will further give inputs into future furnace control and optimisation research directions for Mintek and can participate in these R&D activities as time allows. Duties & Responsibilities KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: Execute furnace control installations, both locally and internationally, in which interactions with clients and technical expertise are required at a professional level. Execute R&D projects in line with the divisional research programme, employing finance control and electrical engineering theory and principles. The main contact point on client projects for both project administration and technical aspects. Provide clients with advanced training at a nationally-competitive level of technical expertise. Contribute technically to marketing presentations. Ascertain needs of clients, to contribute to annual R&D planning and strategy. Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget. Ensure that QES procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency. Actively participate in the training, guidance and motivation of junior staff. Participate in team debates and technical decisions. Produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences. Keep up-to-date at a professional level with technology and business developments that are relevant to the division's interests. Desired Experience & Qualification QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Min - MSc or MEng. Electrical or Electronics. PhD will be an added advantage. At least 3 years of experience in the minerals or minerals-related industry. Work experience in control and/or operation of submerged-arc furnaces. Must be willing to travel locally and internationally, and work with minimal supervision. The following skills/knowledge will be advantageous: Experience furnace control, technology evaluation, flowsheet development, modelling or simulation of circuits. Computer programming (e.g. Matlab, C , C# or Python)
