Our Client is looking for a Pastry Chef to join their team Area/Location: Stellenbosch Main Responsibility Responsible for creating a variety of high-quality pastries, baked goods and desserts while ensuring consistency, quality, creativity and presentation across all pastry operations. Duties & Responsibilities Prepare and produce a wide range of pastries, desserts, cakes, breads and other baked goods for the restaurant menu. Develop innovative pastry and dessert offerings for seasonal menus, special occasions and events. Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, taste, texture and presentation. Ensure all pastry products meet the standards and specifications set by the Head Chef. Monitor presentation and quality throughout service and correct inconsistencies as required. Collaborate with the culinary team in developing and testing new pastry and dessert items. Incorporate seasonal ingredients, guest preferences and current culinary trends into pastry offerings. Assist the Head Chef with planning and executing menus for special events, functions and promotional offerings. Follow FIFO (First-In-First-Out) principles for the storage and rotation of pastry ingredients. Conduct regular inventory checks and maintain adequate stock levels of pastry ingredients, equipment and kitchen supplies. Prepare ingredient orders and communicate purchasing requirements to the relevant department. Manage food costs through accurate portioning, recipe adherence and effective ingredient utilisation. Minimise waste through appropriate preparation, storage, portion control and spoilage management. Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic pastry section in accordance with food safety standards. Ensure proper handling, storage and preparation of all ingredients. Comply with company policies, procedures, health and safety regulations and food hygiene requirements. Work effectively with chefs, kitchen staff, front-of-house teams and management to ensure smooth service. Assist with training and guiding junior pastry staff where required. Maintain a high level of creativity and attention to detail in all pastry and dessert production . Experience & Skills Required Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience as a Pastry Chef within a professional restaurant, hotel, lodge or hospitality environment. Strong knowledge of pastry production, baking techniques and dessert preparation. Excellent understanding of food quality, presentation and professional kitchen standards. Knowledge of food and beverage service standards. Strong understanding of ingredient handling, storage and FIFO procedures. Experience with inventory management, food costing and waste control. Ability to develop creative and visually appealing pastries and desserts. Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced professional kitchen. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Passion for pastry, baking, creativity and culinary innovation. Ability to work collaboratively within a professional culinary team. Minimum Requirements Matric Certificate or equivalent. Diploma or recognised qualification in Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts or a related field. Minimum 2–3 years’ relevant professional pastry experience . Desired Skills: Pastry Chef Pastry Cook Pastry Baker
